In America: The Failure of Resilience? Part 1, I wrote of my worries about the ability of our representative republic to recover, as it always has in the past, from the disasters that have befallen it. Without question, Barack Obama and Democrats are not solely responsible for our current state of affairs. More than enough Republicans have behaved selfishly, fecklessly and irresponsibly for decades. But never has America had a president like Barack Obama. Never has an American president so clearly hated America and Americans, capitalism, democracy, and battered our allies while lauding and supporting our enemies. Never has a president done so much damage so fast that it may be impossible to ever fully reverse it. Never has a president done so much to place his ideological cronies in the permanent federal bureaucracy and on the federal bench that his policies may live after his term in office and so that reversing them may be made potentially impossible.

Honest historians will be asking and answering questions about Barack Obama for decades. In many cases, the answers are obvious and easily found. In others, it may take years of careful investigation to uncover criminally concealed documents and other evidence. And the scandals, oh, the scandals.

Bill and Hillary Clinton helped numb the public to scandal, but even they couldn’t rise to Barack Obama’s level. Most recently, Mr. Obama’s non-handling of the Ebola crisis has served to shuffle every other scandal off the front pages, but always lurking underneath, waiting to reemerge, is the threat of Islamism. To better understand what motivates Barack Obama, let’s examine a single question: why can’t Mr. Obama respond appropriately to barbarian Islamist murderers like ISIS? He even has to name them “ISIL,” the better to define them himself.

Mr. Obama has a deep affinity and preference for Islam. There is no question that Mr. Obama was born a Muslim and as a youngster, embraced Islam. Most recently, speaking before the UN, Mr. Obama said: 

The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam.

This single sentence is revealing indeed. It denies not only the foundational American freedom of speech, but expresses a preference for a single faith, and not just any faith, but Islam, a political faith that recognizes no separation between church and state, that is entirely incompatible with American democracy and individual liberty and autonomy and which actively seeks to destroy both.  Slander Jesus Christ or murder christians wholesale?  Of course!  Islam is a religion of peace!

While lauding Islam, Mr. Obama also seeks to hide his preferences when it is politically advantageous.

The most beautiful sound in the world,’ according to Barack Obama, is the Islamic call to prayer.

This is rather an odd thing for a supposed Christian to say. Even Reverend Wright, a man whose sermons make his hatred for America and traditional Christianity plain, agrees:

Wright said that the Obamas chose his church for political, not religious, reasons, and that ‘church is not their thing.’ He also noted that Obama’s religious knowledge upon meeting him consisted entirely of bits and pieces he had picked up from Islam. Perhaps this explains Obama’s baffling comment in April [2012] of this year about Jesus Christ not as the Son of God but as ‘a’ Son of God. Who are the other sons? Obama didn’t say. The remark indicated that he has a very foggy notion of the Trinity, bordering on the biological conception of it pushed by Muslims.

Mr. Obama’s revulsion for Christianity is easy to find for those that bother to look:

While Obama reveres the Koran — he wouldn’t dare subject it to politically correct revision — he feels free to mock the Bible as offensive and retrograde. For example, he doesn’t care for St. Paul’s Letter to the Romans, once dismissing it as ‘obscure.’ (Obama evidently finds St. Paul homophobic.) Nor does he like the Book of Leviticus. And he says in The Audacity of Hope that he would have called the police on Abraham.

Mr. Obama embraces a nebulous, post-modern communist ideology that sees capitalism and America as the enemy. He has never written a coherent description of his worldview, but he occasionally slips and gives glimpses. He is all about wealth redistribution, which is about as hostile to the American principles of free enterprise and private property ownership as it is possible to be. His attempts to destroy the oil industry, and his notable successes in destroying the coal industry, are not only causing severe economic hardship for millions, but worsening a national debt that will bankrupt the nation and the world if not soon reversed.

Obamacare is an engine of state control and power. Even though it is far from fully implemented, its every promise has been proved a lie, and it too is contributing substantially to our economic downfall.

The world is in chaos, and America and her allies face existential threats, yet Secretary of State John Kerry thinks a hoax the biggest threat facing us and western civilization: 

As the world melts into chaos and threats to the U.S. homeland multiply, America’s top foreign policy official seems bizarrely, even dangerously, fixated on … global warming.

In remarks at the East-West Center in Honolulu on Wednesday [August 13, 2014] , Kerry repeated his claim that climate change is ‘the biggest challenge … we face right now.’

To which we respond: Can he be serious?

Indeed he is, and Mr. Obama clearly agrees with him.

Mr. Obama hates America. The serial apologies for America, the bowing to foreign tyrants, the denigration of America in speeches before the UN… I need say no more than this: would you, hearing any man speak about his wife the way Mr. Obama speaks of America, think he loved and respected her?

Mr. Obama hates our military and intelligence agencies. His lack of respect for our military and military leaders, actually, his loathing of the military, has always been obvious. Not only does he, a man with no foreign policy of military experience, disregard the advice of the most competent military leaders in the world, he is doing all he can to reduce our military to levels that will leave it unable to protect the world’s sea lanes and American interests, to say nothing of American lives. In much of the world, Mr. Obama’s policies and fecklessness have already made it too dangerous for American embassies.

He gives our mortal enemies the timetables of our military movements and intentions, and tells them what military force he will never use, allowing them to plan and act unopposed. He repeatedly makes empty threats and draws red lines and when our enemies inevitably call his laughable bluff, he does nothing.

He is so desperate to make a “deal” with Iran over its race to build nuclear weapons, to burnish his legacy, he is reportedly willing to allow them to build nuclear weapons, something he has claimed he would never allow.

During the Clinton Administration, ironically on September 11, 1994, a suicidal man crashed a stolen light plane on the White House lawn. A horrific joke immediately made the rounds of Washington: the pilot was the CIA director trying to get a personal meeting with President Clinton, who actually refused to meet with him, the man he appointed to head the CIA. Barack Obama has followed in that insane tradition: 

A new Government Accountability Institute (GAI) report reveals that President Barack Obama has attended only 42.1% of his daily intelligence briefings (known officially as the Presidential Daily Brief, or PDB) in the 2,079 days of his presidency through September 29, 2014.

The GAI report also included a breakdown of Obama’s PDB attendance record between terms; he attended 42.4% of his PDBs in his first term and 41.3% in his second.

It’s rather hard to make competent foreign policy decisions when one isn’t informed–on purpose.

Barack Obama is a pathological narcissist. His every speech is laced with “I,” “me,” and “my.” His nomination for president would be remembered as the moment the rise of the oceans halted and the planet began to heal. He is a better political director than his political director, and better than anyone at anything. In 2010, Obama bragged to fellow Democrats that the difference between the congressional elections in that year and 1994 was “you’ve got me.”  Having him turned out to be more harm than help, and is the case today as not a single Democrat Senator has asked Mr. Obama to campaign with him in his home state, in fact, recoil in horror at the thought.

Mr. Obama has a complete lack of empathy for others, including individuals and allies. His serial insults of the British and the Israelis are legendary. Knowing how bad playing golf, fundraising among the obscenely rich, and taking extravagant vacations looks in times of national and world crisis, he does it anyway.

He considers the presidency to be beneath him, boring, annoying, not worthy of his talents. He has transcended the presidency and now claims to have to act on behalf of the world. This is no surprise when he surrounds himself with obsequious flatterers like Valerie Jarrett, who is thought by many to actually run the nation:

I think Barack knew that he had God-given talents that were extraordinary. He knows exactly how smart he is. … He knows how perceptive he is. He knows what a good reader of people he is. And he knows that he has the ability — the extraordinary, uncanny ability — to take a thousand different perspectives, digest them and make sense out of them, and I think that he has never really been challenged intellectually. … So, what I sensed in him was not just a restless spirit but somebody with such extraordinary talents that had to be really taxed in order for him to be happy. … He’s been bored to death his whole life. He’s just too talented to do what ordinary people do.

His narcissism causes Mr. Obama to be a blatant and unashamed liar. His claims that Americans could keep their health care plan if they liked it was awarded “lie of the year” status for 2013 by Politifact, quite an accomplishment in an Administration floating on a sea of lies.

Mr. Obama is incompetent. This is hardly surprising. His school records and any and all writings he might have done are buried deeply. He was a “community organizer” that apparently never organized anything. He told friends that he could not explain what a community organizer did or was. In his only executive job, running the Chicago Annenberg Challenge–a position given to him by unrepentant domestic terrorist Bill Ayers–he burned through at least $150 million in grants to Leftist idiots. The Annenberg foundation’s internal audit revealed that for all of that money supposedly spent on disadvantaged Chicago school children, not one was in any way helped.

He, and his supporters, often claim that Mr. Obama was a “constitutional law professor” at the University of Chicago. He was, at best, a “senior lecturer,” teaching a single class, a class arranged for him for political reasons. He was never granted professorial rank, something academics normally zealously guard. 

However, to spare him embarrassment, fellow Democrats at the University have claimed, in a vague fashion, that he was sort of, kind of, a sort of professor, maybe.

As an undistinguished Illinois state senator, he managed to leave no legislative footprints by voting “present” some 130 times.

As a US Senator, his voting record made him the most liberal senator, and he spent much of his time running for President, missing about 46 percent of all Senate votes. He had no significant legislative accomplishments.

Having never held a real job, Mr. Obama has no work ethic.  His light schedule in the White House is embarrassing and laughable. Like Bill Clinton, he shows up for appointments when he feels like it and is perpetually late. He is, however, generally on time for golfing, vacations, and fund-raising junkets, all at taxpayer expense.

For Barack Obama, everything is political. The good of the nation is never a consideration, only what will make him look good. He occasionally considers the needs of his party and fellow Democrats, but few of them find him reliable or helpful, as all flee from him like rats from a sinking ship in the 2014 mid-term elections.

All of this, and so much more, leads us to October of 2014, two weeks prior to the mid-term elections, which have the potential for taking the Senate from the Democrats. Even if Republicans do take the Senate, they have proved timid and ineffective at best at opposing Mr. Obama, and he has two years left. He is broadly hinting at blatantly unconstitutional edicts on immigration, energy and other issues, and all Republicans can do is whine and suggest caving in and doing whatever Democrats want.

If Republicans do take the Senate, Mr. Obama will have no restraints whatsoever. He will totally ignore the Democrats that can no longer help him in any way, and he has always ignored the Republicans. It’s possible that there are a few honorable Democrats that might join with Republicans to actually use the constitutional powers granted them to bring Mr. Obama to heel, but that’s highly unlikely. Mr. Obama might suddenly reverse course 180° and actually engage in politics with the Congress, building relationships, working deals…but that’s about as likely as the Iranian leadership embracing Judaism, or the North Koreans and Chinese renouncing Communism and embracing democracy. Actually, the same could be said of Mr. Obama and Hillary Clinton.

What is far more likely is that having no restraints and no effective opposition, Barack Obama will go berserk, fully unleashing the regulatory agencies, the Justice Department, the IRS, the Department of Homeland Security, and the State Department, enacting every deranged progressive wish on its very lengthy wish list. Who will stop him?

As much as they are beginning to understand they’ve been played for suckers, the media continue to cover for Mr. Obama and that won’t change. Bill Clinton was infamous for “bimbo eruptions.” Would a deranged narcissist like Barack Obama deny himself the pleasures of scores of women only too eager to do his bidding? Do I have any specific information to this effect? No, however at least once in American history the press colluded to cover philandering by a charismatic Democrat president–JFK–and what they will not hide to protect Barack Obama has yet to be discovered. They’ve fallen so far from any actual practice of professional journalism, the current generation have no idea which way to go to return to those lofty heights. Mark this prediction: one day when Mr. Obama is no longer in office, jilted women will suddenly begin to come out of the woodwork.

Ah, and then there will be the release of terrorists from Gitmo, absolute amnesty for illegal aliens, and the pardons. Free Mumia? Oh yes, and just about every other Progressive and leftist criminal one can imagine, including blanket pardons for toadies like Eric Holder and other Obamite faithful. Mr. Obama will make energy prices “skyrocket,” as he promised, and Obamacare will become a single payer system overnight by regulation and executive fiat.

Or perhaps I’m wrong. Perhaps our institutions are so strong and flexible Barack Obama really can’t do that much damage, so much damage that America will be put on an inexorable path to third world status. Perhaps we can survive after all?
