This article begins a new, and I fear, continuing series here at SMM: revelation of the kind of amazing stupidity that has become all too common in this post-rational age. I’m sure you’ve felt it, gentle readers, examples of head-scratching behavior, not just in academia, but throughout our society. My personal favorite was Democrat Representative Hank Johnson of Georgia, who in a hearing about our military presence on Guam, actually said he feared if we put too many service members on the island, it would capsize and sink. It is thinking of that quality that makes me fear America just might be on the verge of being too stupid to survive. On to today’s examples, the first from Fox News:
A college student in California who says he was assaulted by a classmate for wearing a ‘MAGA’ [make America great again] hat on campus said he plans to file criminal charges against his attacker.
Matthew Vitale, a member of the University of California, Riverside Republicans, said he was ‘stunned’ when classmate Edith Macias snatched his “Make America Great Again” hat from his head during a campus meeting.
Vitale alerted authorities after the incident but declined to press charges because campus police told him it would only be a misdemeanor. But then Macias posted a bizarre, profanity-laced ‘SnatchAHat’ video online, which eventually went viral, that showed her physically removing the hat from his head – and then verbally attacking him for promoting ‘genocide.’ By showing that she took it off his person, the crime rose to the level of felony, Vitale said campus police told him.
What Vitale is referring to is laws regarding robbery, which commonly make taking the property of another directly from their person a felony. In instances such as this, prosecutors generally prosecute only a misdemeanor theft based on the value of the stolen item, but in this case, the act was obviously premeditated—it was filmed—and done with the intent to deprive Vitale of his property. As one might expect, the college administration responded forcefully:
University chancellor Kim A. Wilcox released a statement afterward promoting ‘respectful dialogue’ – though Vitale said it didn’t go far enough in condemning Macias’ behavior.
‘Coequal to our dedication to mutual respect is our commitment to free speech and the free exchange of ideas,’ the chancellor’s statement said, according to the College Fix. ‘A university requires an environment where students and scholars can freely express ideas and pursue knowledge, while also promoting respectful dialogue among individuals or groups with opposing viewpoints.
And there were the usual deranged student demands:
Some students on campus started a ‘Statement of Solidarity with Edith Macias.’ The statement claims free speech has been ‘used as a dog whistle for the protection of white supremacist violence in the University of California system and elsewhere.’
The statement also claims that Macias has been ‘doxxed’ and ‘harassed,’ and they demand the university pay Macias’ rent, grant her amnesty, cover her legal fees, condemn white supremacist violence, and support a sanctuary campus.
If these special snowflakes think California supportive of white supremacy, one shudders to imagine their fate should they one day venture forth into flyover country. Of course, it’s hard to think who is most bereft of functioning brain cells in this case. Is it the hat snatcher, those that demand her perpetual governmental support, or college administrators?
Our second offering in this cultural twilight zone comes from Michigan State University where another heinous racial incident–a noose–was spotted on campus. Reason.com reports:
A student, believing the item had been left there to intimidate minority students, reported it to campus authorities. ‘I want to recognize the courage it took for the student to report this incident,’ MSU President Lou Anna Simon then said in a statement.
She continued:
MSU Police and our Office of Institutional Equity were immediately notified, and both promptly began investigations. I want to be clear: This type of behavior is not tolerated on our campus. No Spartan should ever feel targeted based on their race, or other ways in which they identify. A noose is a symbol of intimidation and threat that has a horrendous history in America.
While at this time we do not know all of the details, the Spartan community can be assured we are vigorously investigating this situation.
Well. What a bold statement of solidarity! What decisive action! How diverse and inclusive!
Said vigorous investigation revealed that the ‘noose’ was just a packaged shoelace, and its missing twin was later located just outside the same residence hall. Someone had found it on the ground and hung it on a doorway so that its rightful owner could claim it.
A shoelace. How could any rational person mistake a packaged shoelace for a noose? And why didn’t university officials, instead of congratulating the reporting student for their courage, take them aside and bid them get a grip on themselves?
These unstable, irrational, overwrought adolescents are our future, the unstable, irrational, overwrought administrators, our present.
Too stupid to survive.

One can view the video of the congressman’s questioning of a military commander on the issue of the island “flipping” and you can marvel at how the commander was able to keep a straight face.
If this congressman is representative of “congress” it is patently clear why this country is positioned “south end” of a brahma bull heading north.

Dear Stevie:
As I recall, he replied, deadpan, “we don’t anticipate that happening.”

Hank Johnson represents Georgia’s Fourth Congressional District and is the successor to Cynthia McKinney. As such, he might be considered an improvement over his predecessor.

A common mistake foolish voters make when trying to elect someone that is foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of a complete fool.

I didn’t know that. _There_ is a congressional district that is sorely in need of a literacy test.

These “precious snowflakes” are the product of a culture that worships victimhood, hence they go out of their way to seek victim status. They live is a sub-culture (the university) which validates their claims to victimhood. How will these young people cope once they get out into the real world?
Mike McDaniel said:
Dear Bucky Barkingham:
They get jobs working for progressive, congressmen, senators, environmental lobbying organizations, and a wide variety of other governmental and private leftist concerns. Oh yes, and there is always education…

If only “too stupid to survive” really _was_ too stupid to survive.
Meanwhile, I didn’t like George Carlin’s politics, but a lot of times he hit the nail on the head, such as when he said: ““Think of how stupid the average SJW is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.”
(I’m pretty sure that’s what he said anyway.)
Mike McDaniel said:
Dear David-2:
I’m not sure Carlin ever said that–but he should have.

Unfortunately I believe George died before the term SJW came about. Its to bad becasue he always had a way of seeing things in the perfect spotlight and his comments would have been priceless.
His politics sucked but man could he make you laugh.

as long as there are administrators releasing drivel like that; instead of ridiculing them the way they deserve to be; this will continue
