Bill Mahr, the California based comedian, has of late been something of a voice of sanity.  Considering he has historically been very much on the left, that’s a stunning indication of just how far left the Democrat/Socialist/Communist Party has willfully sprinted.  Mahr seems to have stayed pretty much where he’s always been on the left/right spectrum, perhaps moving a little rightward toward more consistent rationality.  The Hill explains:

HBO’s Bill Maher chided the Democratic Party on Friday [05-06-22], saying Democrats have sucked ‘the fun out of everything.’

‘Once upon a time, the right were the ones offended by everything. They were the party of speech codes and blacklists and moral panics and demanding some TV show had to go,’ Maher said on his show.

‘Well now that’s us. We’re the fun-suckers now. We suck the fun out of everything: Halloween, the Oscars, childhood, Twitter, comedy,’ he added.

Maher, a liberal comedian, has been an outspoken critic of ‘cancel culture’ and has pushed back against efforts from progressives to punish individuals or shut out certain entertainment due to offensive language.

See what I mean?  For someone who still considers himself of the left, admitting cancel culture exists–and is destructive–is an astonishing step toward sanity.  Criticizing it is heresy.

Maher went further Friday, arguing that Democrats need to be less ‘uptight.’

He maintained that Democrats ‘can’t tell the difference between Anthony Weiner and Al Franken,’ referring to allegations of sexual misconduct against the two former Democratic politicians, and went after the party for former Rep. Katie Hill (D-Calif.) being pushed to step down when nude photos of her were leaked.

The host compared the examples to several instances of Republicans engaging in behavior that he said the GOP would have previously condemned, mentioning former House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) working for a marijuana company and former Liberty University president Jerry Falwell Jr. and his wife acknowledging a past affair.

‘We need to restore the natural order of things. I don’t want to live in a world where liberals are the uptight ones and conservatives do drugs and get laid,’ Maher joked, adding that ‘Democrats are the party of free love and fun and forgetting where you parked your car.’

Funny stuff, and he’s going to take a great deal of D/S/C flak for it, but Mahr is missing the bigger picture.  Mahr is superficially correct.  D/S/Cs have become humorless scolds–they always were–but not out of a genuine adherence to a traditional moral code.

As I’ve often written. D/S/Cs think themselves elite, which means none of their beliefs and policies can possibly be wrong.  They are intellectually and morally superior to the deplorable Normal Americans they so disdain, therefore their pronouncements are non-falsifiable–they cannot possibly be wrong.  Not only that, their self-evident superiority gives them leave to create and define reality and force everyone else to live in it.

Inevitably, their policies are wrong, horribly wrong, and when they are, it’s always someone else’s fault.  Consider the loss of our energy independence, runaway inflation, soaring gas prices—Putin’s fault, a foreign policy that could plunge us into nuclear war at any moment, out of control crime, a near total loss of trust in our essential institutions, and the list goes on and on.  How is it such morally and intellectually superior people, people with degrees from the right—left—colleges, credentials from the institutions they’ve established to grant credentials to themselves, could possibly be so wrong, and so wrong so quickly?

It’s because they are neither intellectually nor morally superior, or even sane.

It’s true in past decades some on the right—not so much Normal Americans—were prudish scolds.  However, the political power of the Moral Majority–it was neither–essentially vanished when the organization founded by Jerry Fallwell disbanded in 1989—33 years ago.  Cal Thomas, who held a high position in that movement, came to understand it’s counter productive and wrong to try to mix religion and politics.  One might think the Tea Party a sort of successor, but that group did not push a particular morality, focusing instead on limited, constitutional, small government, ideas the left hate easily as much as religion.

It’s logical to think people who honestly live by a moral code such as Christianity, willingly accepted, will be more likely not to engage in behavior destructive to self, others and society.  Christians will be the first, however, to admit they’re sinners, one and all, and all too often fall short of moral perfection.  However, such people, daily focused on that moral code, and associating with like people, will tend to do morally better than those who don’t.

Do keep in mind, gentle readers, I know I’m generalizing, painting with a rather wide brush.

It takes little wisdom to understand if one associates with people whose lives are consumed by drugs, booze, all manner of sexual experimentation, hatred or others, even criminal behavior, they’ll tend to be drawn into those perversions, and the consequences will be nothing but destructive.  Take Hunter Biden, for example.  I’m sure the D/S/C establishment would love for someone to take him–and make him disappear.

What Mahr is missing is two factors characteristic of D/S/Cs: projection and politics.

D/S/Cs continue to be the anti-American party, the party of rebellion, revolution, hatred for Normal Americans, drug use, abortion as a sacramental means of birth control, hatred for western civilization in general, red-faced screaming hatred of Christianity or any consistent moral code.  This is reflected in their politics, commonly understood to be the politics of personal destruction.

When they attack the supposed moral failings of Republicans and/or Normal Americans, they do it not because it offends their consistent and carefully followed moral code, but because they believe it might provide political advantage.  Of course, they always do it in part out of sheer hatred, but there’s always a substantial undercurrent of projection.  They scream loudest against their own behavior, attempting to project it onto those they hate and wish to politically destroy.

D/S/Cs tend not to be practicing Christians, who as we’ve already established, they hate.  They hate them in part because they know, despite their self-imagined elite status, they fall far short of such people.  And they hate them because their political ideology is a false religion that admits of no greater power than themselves.  All totalitarians must deny God, for there can be no greater power, no greater allegiance than to the Party, and they are the Party.

Mahr is partially correct.  The primary difference between D/S/Cs and Normals is Normal Americans can laugh at themselves.  They can, and do, recognize when they’ve stepped over the moral line, and when they do, they ask for forgiveness, not from the Party, but from the Creator.

Surely there remain some prudes on the right, but Normal Americans, that vast part of the country in more or less the middle geographically and philosophically, merely want to be left alone.  They’re not racists, they’re not white supremacists, they’re not insurrectionists, they’re not obsessed with their sexuality or tribe, they’re Americans, free women and men, who accept American constitutionalism and expect to live under the rule of law.  They remember Martin Luther King as a great man, a great preacher of the Gospel, even knowing of his all too human faults, and they live by his creed to be judged by the content of one’s character rather than the color of one’s skin.  They live by a moral code that values honesty and personal honor, and all they ultimately expect of politicians is they too embrace American constitutionalism–and not be crazy.

This week, Congressional D/S/Cs forced a vote on an abortion bill that does not once use the word “woman.”  The language of the bill reportedly sought to preserve abortion under any and all circumstances for “people” who get pregnant.  They lost.  There can be only one word for people whose political derangement prevents them from acknowledging only women—whose existence they refuse to acknowledge—can become pregnant and bear children: crazy.

Mahr is closer to consistent sanity than those with whom he still identifies, yet he misses the simple truth: embrace American constitutionalism, the rule of law, love thy neighbor as you love yourself, and stop seeing the mote of dust in the eye of your neighbor while ignoring the log in your own.

Nothing so needs reforming as the habits of others.

Perhaps Bill Mahr–actually, all of us–might benefit from reading a bit more Twain, substantially more of the Constitution and the Federalist Papers, a lot more Bible, and a more careful examination of the glaringly obvious motivations of D/S/Cs.
