Welcome back to installment two of the SOTU debacle.  Here’s a transcript of Biden’s speech, and here’s a transcript of the Iowa Governor Kim Reynold’s response.  By all means, take the link and read it; it’s brief and to the point.  If Republicans don’t screw things up, and they have infinite capacity for that, it’s a pretty good roadmap to victory in 2022 and 2024.

Let’s see what other pundits have to say about Biden’s speech, beginning with Byron York, focusing on Biden’s promise to fix immigration:

2022 has started on an equally bad note. In January, border authorities encountered 153,941 illegal crossers. That was almost double the number from January 2021, which was 78,414. And the 2021 figure was more than double the number from the year before that, January 2020, when authorities encountered 36,585 illegal crossers.

They are coming in huge numbers because they believe the Biden administration will allow them to stay in the United States. And indeed, as Robert Law of the Center for Immigration Studies, which supports more restrictive immigration policies, points out, “removals fell by more than 70 percent in fiscal year 2021 [at the same time] the Biden administration has granted, or extended, amnesty-lite (read: work permits, Social Security numbers, driver’s licenses) to approximately 500,000 illegal aliens through an abusive application of Temporary Protected Status.”

And then, there is the fact that under Biden, would-be illegal crossers from all around the world — not just Mexico and the Northern Triangle countries — are coming to the U.S.-Mexico border. Look at this from the Feb. 1 Daily Memo: “A new report in Axios has some of the numbers. ‘More than 800 people from India illegally crossed the U.S.-Mexico border into Yuma, Arizona in December,’ according to Axios. ‘And for the second month in a row, more than 500 migrants from Turkey crossed into El Paso, Texas.’ In the area around San Diego, 2,000 Russians arrived, as well as 300 Ukrainians. There were 15,000 illegal crossers from Cuba and Haiti. And the big number: In December, according to Axios, ‘Border Patrol agents arrested close to 53,000 migrants from Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Nicaragua, and Venezuela.'”

Beyond that, the Biden administration is also secretly relocating illegal border-crossers all around the country. It is doing so secretly because it does not want local residents to know that the U.S. government is moving unvetted, illegal crossers into their towns and communities.

That’s going to take some fixing.  Here’s a quote from the speech:

At our border, we’ve installed new technology like cutting-edge scanners to better detect drug smuggling. We’ve set up joint patrols with Mexico and Guatemala to catch more human traffickers. We’re putting in place dedicated immigration judges in significant, larger numbers so families fleeing persecution and violence can have their cases heard faster and those who don’t [sic] legitimately here can be sent back. We’re securing commitments and supporting partners in South and Central America to host more refugees and secure their own borders. We can do all this while keeping lit the torch of liberty that has led generations of immigrants to this land — my forebears and so many of yours

So we’re sending border patrol agents to the Ukrainian border, and most of the rest are reassigned to “processing” the hordes daily swarming over the border, those who turn themselves in or we can catch.  Who is left to respond to those “cutting edge scanners?”  Apparently no one, because unprecedented amounts of drugs are getting through.  The same with human traffickers.  We’re actually sending people back?!  I mean those we’re not bussing and flying at taxpayer expense all across the country in the dead of night?  And didn’t Biden extinguish “the torch of liberty” on his first day in office?  Consider this from The New York Post Editorial Board:

It takes a special sort of political cynicism to publicly thank the Ukrainian ambassador for her nation’s bravery — and stress in the next moment that we will do nothing to defend her country with our military.

But then President Biden’s State of the Union speech was nothing but bumbling hypocrisy.

I watched the speech on Fox, and on the few occasions the camera settled on the ambassador, she wasn’t smiling.

So the State of Biden’s Union is delusional because he’s not going to be able to lower prices, he’s not going to be able to pass BBB, he’s not going to be able to keep companies in America. Won’t get an immigration deal, certainly not when he’s thrown open the border to millions. No amount of lecturing will change that. Meanwhile, nothing on energy independence, which would help our economy and strengthen our foreign relations.

Good to see others saw what I saw.

Joe’s plans boiled down to nothing more than ‘Just get it done,’ a phrase he said about 153 times. Pass my bills, just get it done. Cure cancer, just get it done. None of it will get done.

It was an unserious speech for deadly serious times. Lord help us.

Lord help the world.  Here’s Matthew Continetti at The Washington Free Beacon:

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is a historical turning point. The moment demands a serious reevaluation of current energy policy, of defense spending levels, of strategic weaponry and arms control. Biden gave no indication that he is ready to engage in such thinking. But he gave every sign that his biggest worry is losing more soft-Democratic voters who dislike his style of leadership and are unhappy at inflation and the direction of the country.

As I noted in the first article, he’s also trying to get women to vote for him with his feckless school and covid commentary.

The entire speech had this dream-like quality: Biden outlined an agenda that a popular president with substantial majorities in Congress would have a hard time passing into law, while Biden is an unpopular president with the narrowest congressional majorities in a century. He began and ended with gestures toward national unity, by invoking Ukraine and the danger of Russia at the outset and ending with calls to address the opiate crisis and help veterans. The bulk of the speech was a Democratic wishlist divorced from political and electoral reality.

If Biden wants to turn his presidency around, conditions in the country and the world need to change. For that to happen, though, Biden must reorient his agenda. The State of the Union demonstrated that Biden has no interest in doing so. Maybe November will change his mind.

Yeah.  I doubt it.  One of Biden’s most egregious lies was about the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act.  He’s been lying about that ever since it was enacted in 2005.  Here’s AWR Hawkins at Breitbart:

The Associated Press fact checked President Joe Biden’s State of the Union claim that gun makers enjoy immunity from lawsuits and found it ‘false.’

When you’re a D/S/C and you’ve lost the AP…

PLCAA is very narrow in scope. It shields gun makers from lawsuits in situations where a gun, criminally used, was legally made and legally sold.

In other words, Glock cannot be sued over a handgun that was used in crime if that handgun was legally made then distributed from the factory to a Federal Firearms License holder (FFL), then sold via a National Instant Criminal Background System (NICS) check to an individual at retail. [skip]

However, the protections set forth PLCAA do not shield gun manufacturers from lawsuits over defective goods, criminal misconduct on the part of the gun maker, etc. In other words, the protections in PLCAA do not provide gun makers with ‘legal immunity.’

Which I’ve been saying for years.  Post-SOTU polling is not helping Biden either:

The survey, taken March 1 among 544 respondents, asked viewers if they believe Biden did enough to address certain issues, including inflation and violent crime.

Overall, 53 percent said Biden did not do enough to discuss inflation, and 54 percent said he did not do enough address violent crime either.

Indeed, Biden only mentioned inflation a handful of times, touting his vague plan to ‘fight inflation’ and build a ‘better America.’

‘My plan to fight inflation will lower your costs and lower the deficit,’ Biden claimed. He will do that in part, he said, by cutting the cost of prescription drugs and slashing energy costs for families by ‘combating climate change.’

Uh-huh.  Forcing Americans to buy very high priced electric vehicles, and doubling their energy costs will lower our costs.  Twenty years ago, Germany took that path, shuttering their nuclear power plants and going full tilt green.  Energy costs doubled, electricity became unreliable, and now they’re entirely reversing course.  But maybe Biden’s emphasis on Ukraine resonated with Americans?

Notably, Biden spent a sizable portion of his speech on the conflict in Ukraine, and while a majority of the survey’s respondents said he addressed it sufficiently in his speech, 64 percent say economic issues in the speech were more important than the situation in Ukraine.

Not so much.  Brad Polumbo and Hannah Cox exposes three of Biden’s biggest lies:

He lied about his stimulus bill:

‘One of the first things I did as President was fight to pass the American Rescue Plan,’ he said. ‘Because people were hurting. We needed to act, and we did. Few pieces of legislation have done more in a critical moment in our history to lift us out of crisis. It fueled our efforts to vaccinate the nation and combat COVID-19. It delivered immediate economic relief for tens of millions of Americans.’

‘American Rescue Plan helped working people—and left no one behind,’ Biden continued. ‘And it worked. It created jobs. Lots of jobs.’

This is false on several fronts. For one thing, his plan did very little to promote vaccination or directly combat COVID-19. Even the left-leaning PolitiFact acknowledged that just 1% of its spending went to vaccines and less than 10% of the massive spending bill was directly related to COVID-19. Most of it was wasteful, fraud-rife welfare spending and big new government programs.

And Biden’s stimulus did not ‘work’ or ‘create lots of jobs.’ On the contrary, it fell short of the job promises the White House outlined if they spent nothing on stimulus at all!

Enlightened tax policy. Biden could learn from the Ukrainians.

He lied about not raising taxes on anyone making less than $400,000 dollars:

‘Under my plan, nobody earning less than $400,000 a year will pay an additional penny in new taxes,’ he said. ‘Nobody.’

This is completely false. Since taking office, Biden has put forward multiple tax proposals that would increase taxes on Americans earning less than $400,000.

He lied about reducing the deficit:

‘My plan will not only lower costs to give families a fair shot, it will lower the deficit,’ he said Tuesday night.

Yeah… no.

An analysis by the Wharton School of Business found that Biden’s ‘Build Back Better’ spending agenda would increase the national debt by 2% over the long run under rosy conditions, and by 25% under more realistic conditions.

Take this link to a classic Bill Whittle video that exposes the lunacy of thinking one can solve America’s fiscal problems by making the wealthy and corporations “pay their fair share.”

Issues and Insights was equally unimpressed:

And of course, Joe movingly called on all of us to ‘stop seeing each other as enemies, and start seeing each other for who we really are: Fellow Americans.’ Especially those ‘Fellow Americans’ he previously referred to as favoring ‘Jim Crow 2.0;’ heirs to Bull Connor, George Wallace and Jefferson Davis; white supremacists; and, especially in the case of soccer moms putting a fright into woke school boards, ‘domestic terrorists.’

No, changing the subject to his courageous Ukrainian contemporary didn’t fly. Nor changing basic principles of economic theory, nor previous stances. Leaving America right where we started the evening, after 13 months of first-class flops: wishing we could change the occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue 35 months early.

Take the link for the rest.  Hot Air reports even The Atlantic is complaining about the economy.  When you’ve lost The Atlantic…

Republicans might be feeling worse than Democrats, but Democrats aren’t feeling great either, notes John Sides, a political scientist at Vanderbilt University. Indeed, Biden’s presidential-approval ratings are more tightly correlated with consumer confidence than Trump’s or Obama’s, in part because of Democrats’ dissatisfaction with how things are going. The chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan, the Delta and Omicron coronavirus waves, the sputtering of the Democrats’ election-reform and social-infrastructure bills, and, perhaps most of all, the false assurance that inflation would be ‘temporary’—all of those factors led Democrats and moderates to turn on Biden. ‘There’s no way for Biden, and Democrats generally, to offer a counternarrative that’s going to be as attractive as the bad news,’ Sides told me. ‘It’s been very hard for Democrats to feel optimistic.’

When all you’ve got is manipulation of narratives, that’s bad.  Lets end with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s response to the SOTU:

‘America has been invaded at our wide-open border at the invitation of Joe Biden,’ she said. ‘And every single threat is coming across. From terrorists to child trafficking, to deadly poisonous fentanyl sent to America courtesy of the CCP and the Mexican cartels. Joe Biden is recklessly endangering every single American’s life. But his most egregious action is flying illegal aliens in the dark of night across America, maybe to a suburb near you.’

She called Joe Biden a ‘great business partner to the Mexican cartels,’ before shifting to Afghanistan, a topic that was missing from Biden’s speech.

He’s the best American business partner they’ve ever had.  Remember during the Obama Administration, Operation Fast And Furious armed them, which turned out to be a prelude to the age of Biden.

‘And while the media is feeding you blood, violence, and war 24/7 on every single TV, social media, and news app, owning the deadly Russian invasion of Ukraine, America’s still reeling from Joe Biden’s unforgiveable failure in Afghanistan,’ she began.

Ouch!  But absolutely true.

‘Under President Trump, this would have never happened,’ Greene insisted. ‘For four years, our country had a real leader that led America and the entire world to peace through strength. But now we have a mentally incompetent, ‘feckless, dementia-ridden piece of crap,’ she said, quoting Kathy McCollum, the mother of 20-year-old Lance Corporal Rylee McCollum, who was killed during Biden’s botched withdrawal Afghanistan.

They’re just taking their priority cues from Biden…

Final Thoughts:  Just as his presidency has been a failure, the speech was a failure.  I’ve provided only a small sampling of the commentary out there.  Even many D/S/Cs are far from happy and complimentary about the SOTU speech, though they have to try to find some silver lining around a uniformly dark cloud.  There is no question: Biden—and his handlers and hangers on—are manifestly incompetent, unfit to administer and lead this country, in peacetime, or war.

D/S/Cs clearly believe they can print any amount of money, make us entirely dependent on our enemies for oil, institute a green economy, and raise every manner of tax and that will end inflation, raise our wages, and make everything happy.  No doubt some, the “Ds” know that’s insane, yet they go alone with it anyway.  Which is worse: actually believing that kind of economic voodoo or knowing it will destroy the nation and imposing it anyway?

In the past, I thought our institutions under the Constitution were so strong we could survive even an incompetent president.  I was wrong.  We can survive only so long as whoever is in office actually upholds American Constitutionalism, and doesn’t hate America and Americans.  The Administration has already done previously unimaginable damage in such a short time.  And we have three more years of them.
