A weekish ago, in The Second Civil War: Sue And Settle, I reported on the latest end run around the will of the people, immigration law and simple sanity: the Brandon Administration’s “talks” about giving illegal immigrants who were “separated” from their children, $450,000 dollars each for the mental anguish and suffering occasioned by their purposeful violation of American law.  Oh, and they also get permanent residence in America.  That’s right, gentle readers, a father and mother, illegally dragging kids across the border, including kids that aren’t actually theirs—oh yes, that’s happening a lot—are set to get just under a million bucks—for breaking American law!  It’s a good gig if you can get it, particularly for doing nothing other than breaking the law and landing free health care, free education, free transportation to points unknown in America, permanent residence and all manner of other free goodies in concert with just under a cool half million bucks each.

And why were “children” separated from these “parents?”  In America, we don’t throw children into adult detention facilities, even if the children are themselves breaking the law.  These “children” were reunited with their parents as soon as their cases were settled, usually by bussing or flying them on the taxpayer’s dime to points unknown in America, where a nice immigration official might have asked them, pretty please, sometime in the future—no hurry—stop by an immigration office and tell them you’re here, who you are, all about your felony record, your gang affiliation, etc.  A few were deported just to keep up appearances.

So we’re not only paying them nearly a half million each for breaking our law, we’re paying them because some silly federal officials actually upheld federal law by not throwing children in adult jails.  That would only make sense when Brandons are in charge.

What’s this “sue and settle” stuff you ask?  It’s a common tactic of D/S/C administrations.  Federal bureaucrats and/or politicians want something, say it’s some environmental restriction or some equally lunatic policy or regulation they can’t get because the Congress would never approve it, the American people hate it and any politician with their fingerprints on it will be thrown out of office at the next election and there will be fierce blowback on the rest.  The solution is simple: sue and settle.  The bureaucrats and/or politicians get an appropriate environmental group, NGO, etc. to sue the government.  Everybody knows the government is going to immediately settle the suit–this is real collusion, gentle readers.  The environmental group and bureaucrats get what they want, they get plenty of free money—that’s always a feature—and the public is usually none the wiser until it’s far too late, if then.  Sue and settle.  Neat, more or less legal and fundamentally dishonest.

But this time somebody blew the whistle and The Wall Street Journal spilled the beans.  Even the normally low-profile Mitch McConnell commented:

GOP’s Senate leader, Sen. Mitch McConnell, slammed the administration’s leaked offer of $450,000 in reparations to individual illegal migrants who claim to have been separated from their children or parent.

‘Here’s what the Biden administration is focused on: Handing out six-figure and seven-figure payments to illegal immigrants …

This absurd idea feels like a satirical policy proposal that Republicans would have been invented to make a parody out of the radical left. “Oh, and the next thing you know, they’ll be sending out million dollar checks to illegal immigrants!” But this is literally what the Biden administration wants to do, according to reports that they have not denied. [skip]

Even during a time of calm and prosperity, writing million-dollar checks to illegal immigrants would be an insult to American families. But it’s ten times more insulting at a time like this when Democrats policies are forcing so many households to tighten their belts.

Democrats are already trying to send monthly welfare payments to people here illegally. That’s in the reckless, taxing and spending spree they are putting together behind closed doors. But who needs $300 a month when President Biden wants to send these folks $450,000 per person. That is four and a half times the payment that the Department of Defense sends to survivors of service members who were killed in action.’

Yeah?  So?  What’s your point Mitch?

Even better, an enterprising reporter–Peter Doocy from Fox–actually committed journalism and asked Biden about it:

President Joe Biden on Wednesday dismissed the idea that immigrant families separated at the southern border under his predecessor’s zero-tolerance policy could receive payments of $450,000 per person in monetary settlements, calling the report ‘garbage.’

Following remarks at the White House about Covid vaccines for children, Biden was asked by a Fox News reporter whether the payments would incentivize more people to cross the border illegally.

‘If you guys keep sending that garbage out, yeah,’ Biden said. ‘But it’s not true.’

When pressed on the matter, Biden appeared surprised by the $450,000 figure.

‘$450,000 per person? Is that what you’re saying?’ the president said. ‘That’s not going to happen.’

And what did the ACLU, who is suing to settle, have to say about this?

Biden’s comments on Wednesday drew ire from immigration advocates like ACLU Executive Director Anthony Romero, who said Biden might have not been up to speed on the Justice Department’s actions as it ‘carefully deliberated and considered the crimes committed against thousands of families separated from their children as an intentional governmental policy.’

If by “intentional governmental policy,” Romero means federal law, common sense and common decency—you don’t put children in adult jails–then sure.  Oh, and by the way, this doesn’t apply only to illegal immigrants.  American citizens arrested with children present are also separated from those children, and the police are responsible for the welfare of the kids.  They don’t put them in adult jails—ever.

But if he follows through on what he said, the president is abandoning a core campaign promise to do justice for the thousands of separated families,’ Romero said. ‘We respectfully remind President Biden that he called these actions ‘criminal’ in a debate with then-President Trump, and campaigned on remedying and rectifying the lawlessness of the Trump administration. We call on President Biden to right the wrongs of this national tragedy.’

Wow.  Now we “do justice” to criminals by giving them nearly half a million bucks for breaking federal law?  I’m seriously contemplating a life of crime.  At my advanced age, I have a lot of wasted time for which to make up, but at a half mil a pop, it shouldn’t take too long for me to catch up.  About how many illegals are we talking?

About 5,500 children were separated at the border during the Trump administration, according to the American Civil Liberties Union, citing figures provided by the government. The number of families eligible for the money will likely be smaller, according to the Wall Street Journal report, and around 940 claims have been filed so far.

So far.  And again, gentle readers, note this is not some new, evil Trump policy.  Immigration law and the law that prevents children from being held in adult jails has been around long before Donald Trump was born.  And the day after Temporary President Biden denied any knowledge of the deal and said it wouldn’t happen, his Deputy Press Secretary said otherwise:

Golly.  Someone’s not telling the truth, but that couldn’t be so, could it?

Apart from the utter lunacy of paying people nearly a half million dollars to violate our laws, apart from the largess with which D/S/Cs want to shower them, we need to consider the precedent this would set.  If we can no longer separate children from adults when adults go to jail, what’s the only possible option?  Just what D/S/Cs want: never arresting illegal adults accompanied by children for violating immigration law in the first place.  And why not?  Covid mandates only apply to Americans, not illegals.  Why should any of our quaint, outmoded laws apply to them?  Sure, this will greatly increase child sex trafficking and slavery, but that’s a small price to pay for righting “the wrongs of this national tragedy,” as Mr. Romero, who is upholding the fundamental American right to break the law and get paid—a lot—for it.  For the ACLU’s trouble, they’ll surely get an avalanche of taxpayer gold that would bury Scrooge McDuck.  And if you think people are rushing to the border now, just wait until they get $450,000 each for the inconvenience of getting wet.

To where will Americans emigrate to live like Americans?

The other question is why doesn’t the President of the United States know about this?  Was he told and simply forgot, just as he forgets where he is, who is talking to, who is his wife and who is his sister and what he’s doing?  If told, did he think giving illegals huge piles of cash for breaking the law a good idea and approve it?  Or is it the most likely option: Joe Biden is a senile puppet, and a cabal of evil Marxists is actually running the United States?

So.  We have to ask ourselves two additional, fundamental, questions:

1) Which would be worse?

2) If our current “leaders” were actively trying to destroy America, what would they be doing differently?

If this actually happens, we’re one big step closer to a second civil war.
