Paul Mirengoff at Powerline has some of the irony inherent in this article:

In July, when Joe Biden announced that he would be pulling the U.S. completely out of Afghanistan, he said: ‘The likelihood there’s going to be the Taliban overrunning everything and owning the whole country is highly unlikely.’

As Sarah Palin was famous for saying: “how’s that workin’ out for yah?”

It’s hard knowing exactly what went wrong when and who to blame and to what degree.  The Lamestream media is absolutely untrustworthy, except one can always count on their foreign policy coverage to be detrimental to America.  Most of their efforts during the Trump years were focused on suing the Trump Administration to get access to the coffins of returning heroes, and not to praise them for their sacrifice.  This article at survivaltricks might help explain, in general, the information that has been generally denied us.

NOTE: I usually post an education article on Mondays, but this situation is developing so quickly, I need to get this article up.  I’ll be back to education issues next Monday.

If one lives, like readers of SMM, in the reality-based community, this debacle is the responsibility of one man: Joe Biden.  Unfortunately, reality also requires we recognize Biden got lost on the lawn of the White House this week.  He’s not making decisions or policy.  Would that we knew who was so they could be, at least theoretically, held responsible in at least some way some time in the future.  What we do know is Biden’s handlers are having him blame their utter fecklessness and foreign relations disaster on, who else: Donald Trump.

I won’t bother to respond to that.  Mr. Trump is more than capable of defending himself. Visit this article for a perspective on that issue.  Let us, however, visit PJ Media:

The Biden administration is putting out feelers to the Taliban begging them not to attack our embassy in Kabul and are dangling foreign aid as a bribe.

And why would the United States be begging a tribal band of 7th century barbarians not to attack the Kabul Embassy?  Because the current United States government, directing our entirely woke general officers, couldn’t plan their way past “Go” on a Monopoly board.  They are so inept, so dangerous–to America and her allies–it’s entirely possible Taliban maniacs could be shooting—at very close range–at our vehicles and helicopters as they desperately try to evacuate Americans, and with our own weapons.

It’s a fitting end to our involvement in a ‘Forever War’ that ended up with the United States bartering with the enemy for a safe exit.

The Biden administration is already urging Americans there who are not working for the government to get out while the going is good.

Hmmm.  If we want to avoid another Iran hostage crisis, perhaps these idiots should have thought about this a bit earlier?  Perhaps they should be doing whatever is necessary to get those Americans out, and yesterday?  After all, Biden was a Democrat during the Carter hostage crisis.  Didn’t he learn anything from that?

I know: dumb question.

There are 1,400 Americans working at our billion-dollar embassy in Kabul and the Biden administration would rather not have a repeat of the Saigon experience where pictures and films showing our evacuation from the U.S. embassy depicted people hanging out of helicopters trying desperately to leave. The images made an indelible mark on many Americans of that generation.

New York Times:

‘American diplomats now are trying to determine how soon they may need to evacuate the U.S. Embassy should the Taliban prove to be more bent on destruction than a détente. On Thursday, the embassy urged Americans who were not working for the U.S. government to leave Afghanistan immediately on commercial flights.

Biden administration officials insist that there are no immediate plans to significantly draw down the embassy’s staff of 4,000 employees, including about 1,400 Americans, as U.S. troops formally complete their withdrawal from the country.’

They’re “trying to determine how soon they may need to evacuate…”?!  That would be weeks ago.  The Taliban are, by all accounts, within days or weeks, at the most, of seizing Kabul, which means their advance elements are already among the population, and certainly they have eyes on the Embassy and all related facilities.  Anyone not long gone when they take Kabul is going to immediately become a hostage, or be raped, mutilated and murdered, and that’s all known genders/sexes.  Islamist madmen don’t much care about pronouns, and they’ll rape anything remotely warm and alive.  This is classic understatement:

Reports from Afghanistan suggest the Taliban will not be in a very cooperative mood when they hit Kabul. Taliban fighters are reportedly executing surrendering Afghan government troops. So the U.S. tweeted about it.

“Could constitute war crimes”?  “Could?!”  Golly.  I bet hearing of this the 7th century Islamist savages of the Taliban are shaking with fear as they drive in captured American armored vehicles.  And how, exactly, are we, having totally withdrawn from the country—except those Americans left behind as hostages, of course—going to arrest essentially anonymous barbarians for war crimes?  Where will the tribunal be seated?

Washington Post:

The Biden administration has mounted a last-ditch effort this week to convince the Taliban, as it continues its relentless march across Afghanistan, that the world will reject it if it takes over the entire country by force.

In the largest such gathering since U.S.-Taliban talks began nearly two years ago, representatives from Russia, China, Afghanistan’s regional neighbors, European powers, the European Union, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the United Nations have converged on Doha, Qatar, for U.S.-led meetings with the militants.

The hope is that sheer numbers and a unified stance — both during the Taliban meetings and in a tough joint statement to be issued after their last session Thursday — will disabuse the militants of any notion that there are cracks in international resolve to cut any Taliban government off from all diplomatic contact and assistance.

Once again, why hasn’t the entire Embassy been evacuated long ago?  Why hasn’t the building been reduced to rubble?  Why is there a single American left in the entire damned country?  Where is the vaunted military professionalism of General Woke Milley and his equally diverse, equitable underlings?

Oh.  Let us take a moment to review the nature of the Taliban.  They are Islamist madmen, fine representatives of “the religion of peace.”  It is an indisputable fact Muslims that are not bloodthirsty, that do not want to conquer the world and establish Sharia, are not adhering to the letter of their faith.  I’ve talked with Afghanistan veterans.  With the advantage of current generation night vision devices, they watched these noble Muslims having sex, not only with farm animals, but with little boys.  And of course, they routinely rape little girls.

You will see, gentle readers, in the weeks ahead, many oh so sophisticated westerners talking about the plight of Afghani women and girls.

You will see Muslims and Muslim apologists saying these women and girls should be treated with the respect Islam mandates.  They will be treated like the most devout, observant Muslims treat all women: like cattle.  Besides, these are not the right kind of potential immigrants; they might not vote for D/S/Cs.  These are people who throw gays, bound, off buildings, or hang them from cranes.  These are the fanatics that engage in honor killing of women.  These are the people whose clerics are compelled to issue religious opinions about whether it is proper to eat a chicken after a Muslim has buggered it?  These are animals who delight in inflicting tortures even medieval Christians would consider out of bounds.

One of the central tenants of Islam is Muslims are encouraged to lie to infidels.  It’s a religious duty known as “Taqiyya.”  In Islam, there is no separation between church and state, no First Amendment.  The Taliban doesn’t care about their standing in the International Community.  Our threats don’t mean anything to them.  They intend to conquer the world.  They don’t care what the world thinks about it.  They only care—maybe—about being slaughtered by our superior weapons.  If they have the chance to take hostages or murder Americans fleeing in helicopters, they gleefully do it.

Let’s visit the New York Post:

It doesn’t get more idiotic: ‘The Taliban also has to make an assessment about what they want their role to be in the international community,’ White House press secretary Jen Psaki said with a straight face Wednesday.

Oh, and the State Department has sent diplomats to ‘press the Taliban to stop their military offensive and to negotiate a political settlement, which is the only path to stability and development in Afghanistan.’ They’re also begging to have the US Embassy in Kabul left alone, warning that future US aid is at risk — and so effectively promising that we’ll actually subsidize these barbarians.

We already have subsidized them.  We’ve allowed them to seize billions in military vehicles, arms, ammunition, fuel and other goodies.  I was going to ask what kind of idiots could possibly believe the Taliban care about their role “in the international community,” but the answer is obvious.  Senator Joni Ernst, at Fox News, has a more realistic view:

Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, the first female combat veteran elected to the U.S. Senate, condemned the potential collapse of Afghanistan to the Taliban, as the insurgent group gains control of one provincial capital after another in short order ahead of President Biden’s August 31 troop withdrawal date.

Ernst blamed the president for the conditions on the ground, as the Pentagon engaged in a mission to help evacuate Americans from the U.S. embassy in Kabul.

‘This is a very grim reality, not just for the United States but for so many of our partners around the world to see Afghanistan fall like this. It is all on President Biden’s shoulders,’ Ernst said Friday.

‘This rapid and haphazard withdrawal of American troops — before we knew that our embassy would be safe, before we had our Afghan interpreters and other friends out of Afghanistan, to allow it to fall like this without any sort of plan or recourse, it is shameful.’

‘Again, it is all on President Biden.’

But of course, it’s all Trump’s fault.

Recent reports indicate we’ll soon have some 6000 troops in Afghanistan, but we no longer have bases there for air support, which is largely what has kept the Taliban at bay for two decades, but they now own those bases, about 2/3 of the country, and more every hour.  The failure, and now, complete humiliation of America in Afghanistan is not the fault of our war fighters.  They served as they always do: with honor.  They were not allowed to win.  Under Barack Obama and Joe Biden, war fighters were purged from the military in favor of woke sissies like General Milley.  Donald Trump, fighting daily against implacable domestic enemies, did his best to reinvigorate our military, but he didn’t have the necessary support and time.  Obviously, Joe Biden—his handlers—haven’t learned a thing.

It’s clear we had to get out of Afghanistan, but the way in which it was done was of great importance.  Our international credibility was already badly damaged by seven months of Biden.  Now it’s going to be so damaged it may be irreparable, certainly in the foreseeable future, and that’s if we don’t end up with another hostage crisis.

Our enemies are going to be even more emboldened, and they’re going to use Afghanistan as a base for attacks against American soil.  Our allies are going to have no doubt: there is no less reliable and more dangerous ally than America.  If we believe the 2020 election was honestly conducted, Americans—and the world—are getting what they asked for—good and hard.
