What’s a fundamental liberty compared to 15 minutes of fame for an angry teenager?
The media is fickle. Today’s hot property, whether a victim of evil Republicans, or a martyr with ultimate moral authority, or merely someone whose hatred for normal Americans is helpful in the never-ending Leftist long march through the institutions, is tomorrow’s “who?” So it has been in recent months for David Hogg.
Hogg’s latest grab at temporary fame came even before the recent attack in Odessa/Midland, Texas. In the aftermath of that bizarre attack, the usual calls for entirely ineffective “gun safety” measures, such as banning “assault weapons” rang out, but Young Mr. Hogg had already beaten them to the never-ending punch.
Hogg, for those unfamiliar with him, is a “survivor” of the Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School attack in Parkland Florida. The SMM Parkland archive is here. Various sources, even so-called “fact checkers,” have produced many conflicting accounts, suggesting that Hoog wasn’t in the same building as the shooter, if he was, he was never in actual danger, or even that he wasn’t on campus. That’s an issue the Media has not seen fit to clarify. It appears he was never in any actual—oh what’s the word? Danger? Yes. That’s it; he was never in danger. How this qualifies him as a “survivor” remains unexplained. By that standard, I am a survivor of the Twin Towers attack, though I was in Texas at the time. I’m waiting for the media to contact me for interviews. An article from the series featuring a real hero and actual survivor of that attack is here.
In any case Hogg gained his 15 minutes of fame in the Parkland aftermath by angrily and shrilly shilling for gun control “We must believe the children and do whatever they say!” was the Leftist/Media narrative at the time, until it soon became clear most Americans weren’t buying that one. As usual, every gun control scheme demanded by Hogg and his adult handlers would have had no effect whatever on the Parkland killer. But unlike many cases, there were innumerable, explicit behavioral red flags, which if acknowledged, might have prevented the attack.
Since then, Hogg has, from time to time, been given a little media attention, but obviously, not nearly as much as he and his handlers think he/they deserve, as the Daily Caller reports:
David Hogg has officially been clear: If he’s assassinated, he wants his corpse to decorate the doorstep of the NRA’s headquarters in Fairfax, Virginia. This is, of course, after activists do a photo shoot with it for propaganda purposes.
The anti-gun March For Our Lives founder explained that if he’s ever shot he wants his death to be used to promote gun control, in a series of tweets issued on Sunday. He also created a hashtag his supporters can use to indicate that they too want their corpses leveraged for activism if they’re ever shot.
There are, of course, laws in the various states relating to the inadvisability of leaving corpses laying about in public, but since this might be a sort of ultimate posthumous virtue signaling, I’m sure the authorities, particularly in Democrat-ruled cities, might make an exception. One might reasonably doubt the likelihood of young Mr. Hogg’s assassination–apart from the Left upon occasion, few are paying attention to him–so the point will likely be moot. One might think this particularly ghoulish, but since Leftists routinely and publically hope for the bloody and painful deaths of those they hate, or think they ought to hate, it’s no more macabre than usual.
But this isn’t the end of Hogg’s current attempt to write his name in Leftist lights. Kemberlee Kaye at Legal Insurrection via The Washington Post reports on Hogg’s latest gun control schemes. One might be forgiven for seeing the influence of Hogg’s adult, gun control cracktivists in his ideas.
The Peace Plan would create a national licensing and gun registry, long a nonstarter with gun rights advocates; ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines; implement a mandatory gun buyback program; and install a ‘national director of gun violence prevention’ who would report directly to the president and coordinate the federal response to what advocates call a national public health emergency.
It would dramatically increase restrictions around owning guns in ways sure to spark fierce blowback, including raising the age to 21 from 18 for those who want to buy guns. It calls for a ‘multi-step’ gun licensing system, overseen by a federal agency, that would include in-person interviews and a 10-day wait before gun purchases are approved. The license would be renewed annually.
Apply this “Peace Plan” to any other fundamental, unalienable right, and the sheer audacious lunacy of it should become apparent. Ban the “high capacity” Internet, mandatory buy backs on computers, a national registry for speech, a “multi-step” licensing procedure for speech, and install a national director of wrong-think/speech, like perhaps, David Hogg? Perhaps these infringements should apply to the exercise of religion as well. We all know how dangerous that can be.
‘I think similarly to a lot of the country, I’m in a lot of pain right now,’ said David Hogg, 19, a co-founder of March for Our Lives and a survivor of the shooting in February 2018 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. ‘You see these shootings on TV every day and very little happening around it. It’s painful to watch. And I think it’s been really hard for me and many of the other students and people that we work with to find hope in this time.
Hogg and his handlers ignore the fact that school attacks, thankfully, remain rare, and America is far, far behind other nations in the rate of murderous violence. All people of good will are pained by the deaths of innocents and the suffering of those that legitimately survive them, but Hogg’s pain is rather more focused on achieving sufficient fame, and the political goals of his handlers.
‘But I think that this plan is something that we can truly — as a country and as Americans united against violence and fighting for peace — can get behind.’
Not unless we’re willing to abandon the Second Amendment, and shortly thereafter, other unalienable rights. What follows would normally be hidden, but the Democrat/Socialist/Communist Left is much emboldened these days:
…In the vein of the Green New Deal, the Peace Plan takes a holistic approach to gun violence by also calling for automatic voter registration when those eligible turn 18, along with the creation of a ‘Safety Corps,’ which the authors compare to a Peace Corps for gun violence prevention. The plan also proposes community-based solutions like mental health services, as well as programs to address and prevent suicide, domestic violence and urban violence.
Automatic voter registration, eh? I assume automatic voting for the right—left—candidates would shortly follow. One also wonders if the members of this “Safety Corps” would wear brown shirts?
Teachers quickly learn to appreciate the intelligence of children while understanding how lacking they are in information and experience. The young often think history began a week ago. They don’t realize that all the issues about which they develop such usually temporary passion have bedeviled mankind for millennia. Yet they think their ideas fresh and brilliant, insights never before imagined, let alone tried, solutions to insoluble problems.
They’re going to prevent suicide, domestic violence, urban violence and gun violence? Wonderful. Finally, we’ll transcend human nature, and with it, the horrific consequences of Democrat policies. Perhaps they could begin in Chicago, Detroit or Baltimore? There’s certainly more than enough pain in those violent cities for Hogg, his young friends and their handlers to eliminate.
But of course, that will never happen. Hogg intends to disarm only law-abiding, normal Americans exercising their liberties. Every one of his high-sounding initiatives would have no effect whatever on criminals, who these days are the beneficiaries of D/S/C policies, and who don’t bother to obey the law. If he wants to experience genuine hopelessness, he need only spend time in the aforementioned cities, and any other Democrat-ruled state or city.
It’s good for the young to be involved in significant issues, but in this case, Hogg and his friends are being cynically used, for the benefit of D/S/Cs, and to the detriment of liberty.
I dunno, Mike. Now you are afraid of a kid who has managed some media attention and just could end up in public life in the future. You’re afraid of “The Squad”. Why is fear.. the perception of “real”, or contrived.. such a big deal with Conservatives? You’ve devoted all this effort to post this about a kid who may or may not have a political future.. and in that effort you’ve managed to keep his name out there. Makes no sense.
Dear Doug:
Fear? Not at all. As I noted in the article, Hogg is being used by the anti-liberty Left. When his usefulness expires, so will their support and praise. I mention this for his welfare, the welfare of any that would trust such people, and to remind readers the anti-liberty left never rests, nor will they ever stop. Whatever concessions they’re given will never be sufficient. This is true for the Second Amendment, and every other freedom we enjoy.
Remember…if the media can make you, the media can break you. That’s what makes President Donald J. Trump so untouchable. The media had nothing to do with making him who he is.
If. I understand you have to be 21 to purchase a gun under his plan because teens are not qualified to make rational decisions. (How old is Hogg?) But they are competent to vote at 18.
Dear Pay Coughlin:
Indeed, and the Democrat presidential candidates are suggest a voting age of 16.

Hogg knows that They are Out There, and They are all conspiring to get him.
An exaggerated sense of one’s importance (i.e., delusions of grandeur) can often be accompanied by paranoia (i.e., delusions of persecution).

Dear 357 Magnum:
Thanks for the link!
This guy has the biceps of my once 5-year-old sister. If he does not
end up behind the counter at a fast-food joint, little miss girly arms
is going to be smoking sausages in West Hollywood. Given the
degree to which our children are being mal-educated, even if he
gets a college degree, you can bet it will not be in core subjects!
Indoctrination is not education. His future involves mooching off
his parents and living in their basement until he in his 40s. Once
he exhausts his parent’s retirement funds, he will be sitting on
Skid Row in a fetal position sucking his thumb!
I would be sad for him if I were not experiencing a level 11 case of
Schadenfreude.
