NOTE: I do not normally name school shooters, doing my part to deny them the notoriety they crave. Unfortunately, this particularly killer, 19 year-old Nikolas Cruz, is still alive, and will be tried. Should he receive the death penalty, he will become a holy cause for anti-death penalty activists, and if given life in prison, the Left will make him a gun control propaganda poster boy for decades, so there is no real point in not using the name of this particular shooter. We won’t be escaping mention of him anytime soon.
In Florida: Evil Again, I noted that the FBI was notified of Nikolas Cruz’s deadly intentions, but did nothing beyond the most minimal investigative gesture. Now, we discover the FBI really did fail, and that failure, realistically, contributed to the deaths of innocents, as Fox News reports:
The FBI revealed Friday it got a tip last month that Nikolas Cruz, the 19-year-old accused of killing 17 people on Valentine’s Day, had a gun, wanted to ‘kill people’ and there was the ‘potential of him conducting a school shooting.’
The agency in a statement admitted receiving a call on Jan. 5, 2018 from a person close to Cruz who contacted the FBI through its Public Access Line tipline to express concerns about Cruz’s erratic behavior and disturbing social media posts.
‘Under established protocols, the information provided by the caller should have been assessed as a potential threat to life,’ the statement said. ‘We have determined that these protocols were not followed for the information received by the PAL on January 5.’
In concluded that the caller’s information was not forwarded to the Miami FBI field office and ‘no further investigation was conducted at the time.’ FBI Director Christopher Wray said the Bureau would review what had happened.
‘We are still investigating the facts. I am committed to getting to the bottom of what happened in this particular matter, as well as reviewing our processes for responding to information that we receive from the public,’ Wray said in the statement. ‘It’s up to all Americans to be vigilant, and when members of the public contact us with concerns, we must act properly and quickly.’
He continued: ‘We have spoken with victims and families, and deeply regret the additional pain this causes all those affected by this horrific tragedy. All of the men and women of the FBI are dedicated to keeping the American people safe, and are relentlessly committed to improving all that we do and how we do it.
Given the information available on the day of the shooting, I considered it unfair to say what I’m about to say; no more: perhaps the FBI should spend more time doing its job and less participating in a soft coup against a lawfully elected president. Even if the agents involved had no role in the ongoing coup attempt–and I assume they didn’t–this, combined with the revelations that are sure to come, will do inestimable damage to the public’s trust in the FBI for a generation–or more.
NRA: As always after a school attack, the Left, and others overcome with emotion, attack the NRA, and Republicans that support, and are supported by the NRA, all of which have blood on their hands because they won’t support whatever gun control measures the Left is currently demanding. Full disclosure: Mrs. Manor and I are NRA life members and certified instructors. This has not kept me from criticizing the NRA when it is merited. Consider this from The Hill:
MSNBC host Nicole Wallace on Thursday questioned when the Republican Party will ‘wake up and realize it has blood on its hands’ for its inaction on gun violence following the mass shooting at a Florida high school.
‘Democrats who are for gun control are fine doing more for the mentally ill, but Republicans who are for doing more for the mentally ill never want to have a conversation about gun control,’ the ‘Deadline White House’ host said. ‘When is the Republican Party going to wake up and realize it has blood on its hands?’
The MSNBC host accused the GOP of being ‘held hostage’ by the National Rifle Association (NRA), referring to its massive contributions to lawmakers who are now insisting that Democrats should not use the latest mass shooting as an opportunity to push for new gun laws.
The NRA is America’s oldest gun safety organization. It’s impossible to estimate the number of Americans having avoided injury or death because of the NRA’s tireless efforts. The NRA’s other primary mission is to support and defend the Second Amendment, which recognizes, but does not establish, the right to self-defense, the right to keep and bear arms, and the right of the people to use those arms to overthrow a tyrannical government, like the kind that would try to abolish the Second Amendment, and seize lawfully possessed arms.
The NRA’s power comes from the fact that it is the primary organization defending a fundamental, express, unalienable constitutional right. It is a powerful lobbying organization because it has more than five million members, and it accurately reflects not only their concerns, but the concerns of tens of millions of other Americans. It donates to Republicans and Democrats, based on one criterion: their support for the Second Amendment. That most of the financial support goes to Republicans is a powerful indictment of the lack of fidelity of Democrats to the Constitution.
Most rational Democrats fear gun control because the American people will vote them out of office on that issue alone, which is a reflection of their understanding of the importance of the Second Amendment. The Left hates the NRA because it keeps its members, and others, well informed of the intentions and voting records of Democrats. They hate honest, law-abiding gun-owning Americans because they keep Democrats from attaining the totalitarian utopia they crave.
America: World Leader In Mass Attacks
Dr. John R. Lott is the leading researcher on firearm related issues. Critics often disagree with his conclusions, but none have been able to assail his methods and facts. Consider this from Barack Obama:
In his address to the nation after the Planned Parenthood attack, Obama claimed: ‘I say this every time we’ve got one of these mass shootings: This just doesn’t happen in other countries.
It is a matter of faith among the Left and the Media (I know: I repeat myself) that America is uniquely violent and gun mad. America must be the world leader in mass attacks. Not so:
Eleventh, and consider that America has a far larger population than any of those nations. By all means, take the link and read the entire article. It’s eye opening.
The Left accuses Republicans of wanting to kill school children because they do not support the “common sense gun control” measures the Left demands. The primary reasons for this are those “common sense” measures are not only not common sense, they are entirely ineffective, would not have stopped any known school attack, and are consistently unconstitutional. As McCormack notes, the Left had, for two years, a filibuster proof majority. They could have passed any gun control measure they pleased, yet they did nothing. Allahpundit at Hot Air explains:
They didn’t ban them because they cared more about getting elected than they did about these supposed national emergencies. The Virginia Tech massacre was just two years old when Democrats assumed power in 2009, which also happened to be the 10th anniversary of the Columbine shootings. Rampage killings at American schools were very much on the national radar. But Democrats had a problem: Having inflamed right-wingers by passing a massive stimulus shortly after Obama was sworn in and then driven the right crazy by ramming ObamaCare through, they worried that pushing any more big-ticket Democratic priorities would cost them control of Congress in the midterms.[skip]
So, faced with the choice of using their power to impose their will on policy and letting the chips fall where they may in the midterms or playing it safe in hopes of preventing an electoral slaughter in red states, they chose to play it safe. They got slaughtered anyway. And you know what? They probably would do it again right now, given the tenuous position red-state Dems like McCaskill, Tester, Donnelly et al. are in this fall. Something to keep in mind as fingers are being wagged in your face about how little you care about DREAMers and schoolkids. Democrats only care when it’s electorally convenient.
Eighteen School Shootings in 2018!
PJ Media reports on a common media theme:
Many media outlets pushed the statistic that there have been no fewer than 18 school shootings in America this year. Politico, TIME, CNBC, ABC News, WUSA9, the New York Daily News, and HuffPost all reported the statistic.
Many activists also shared the stat, including the president of the LGBT group the Human Rights Campaign.[skip]
The statistic came from the gun control activist group Everytown For Gun Safety. By Friday morning, the group had actually removed one of the entries from its website, because the building where the shooting took place was no longer being used as a school.
Everytown is infamous for false statistics, and lying in general. The shooting they removed was actually a suicide that took place near the building, which had not been used as a school for more than seven months.
Everytown took a rather liberal view on what constitutes a school shooting. Eight of the shootings could be summarized as ‘Gun fired but no one injured.’ Two (including the one that was later removed) involved ‘attempted or completed suicide, with no intent to injure other person.’ One involved a gun being fired unintentionally, wounding two students.
Only seven of the 18 shootings involved an ‘attack on other person resulting in injury or death.’ Even that number proved misleading, however. Three of these incidents involved only one person being wounded by a gun, one of them involved one student being wounded, but not by a gun.
One of these shootings took place at a sorority party, two more in parking lots. One person was fatally wounded in a parking lot fight.
Three could be considered school mass shootings, in a broad sense. On January 22, a student in Italy, Texas opened fire in the high school cafeteria, wounding one student and firing at another student, but missing. On January 23, a student opened fire at Marshall County High School in Benton, Ky., killing two students and injuring more than a dozen others.
In total, all ‘seventeen’ of Everytown’s shootings before the Parkland shooting resulted in a grand total of 5 deaths, two from suicide, one from a fight in a parking lot, and two from a true mass shooting.
This Bill Whittle video has been around for some time, but in light of recent events, it’s definitely worth revisiting.
The Kindness And Humanity Of The Left:
Andrew Pollack’s daughter Meadow was killed at Douglas High:
Note the kindness and humanity of the Left. This is only a few examples of the inhuman hatred heaped upon the grieving Pollack family, and anyone disagreeing with Leftist sentiments:
More on these issues soon.
I love this one:
“but Republicans who are for doing more for the mentally ill never want to have a conversation about gun control,”
Seriously? We converse about gun control constantly…it’s the only thing some people can talk about and the conversation becomes deafening after any event they can exploit to support their agenda.
They claim to want “conversation” but that’s the last thing they want.
Translation: “but Republicans who are for doing more for the mentally ill never want to [bend to our will and blindly enact our agenda] about gun control”.
Dear Sailorcurt:
Quite so. I just addressed your ideas a few minutes ago in a new article.
“We have met the enemy and he is us” ~ Walt Kelly as voiced by Pogo.
It wasn’t the video games. It wasn’t the gun. It wasn’t the FBI. It wasn’t fluoride in the water. It was us.
“PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The last piece of legislation President John F. Kennedy signed turns 50 this month: the Community Mental Health Act, which helped transform the way people with mental illness are treated and cared for in the United States.
Signed on Oct. 31, 1963, weeks before Kennedy was assassinated, the legislation aimed to build mental health centers accessible to all Americans so that those with mental illnesses could be treated while working and living at home, rather than being kept in neglectful and often abusive state institutions, sometimes for years on end.”
https://www.usatoday.com/st…
“Few anticipated how quickly President Kennedy’s aspiration of reducing the institutional population by half would be realized. By 1980, the inpatient population at public psychiatric hospitals had declined by 75%. In 2000, approximately 55,000 remained in these institutions, representing less than 10% of those institutionalized just fifty years prior. The shift was especially pronounced among children and youth: by 2009, the institutionalized population had declined by 98%.”

Pull your heads out of your donkeys, disband the circular firing squads and pay attention. We did it to ourselves.
If you are going to use his name, might as well use the name the press never will, nor the advocates that will follow him.
Nicolas de la jesus Cruz.
The NRA’s relationship to firearms is the same as AARP’s is to health insurance for Seniors. They both are advocacy organizations, but their primary mission is safety (NRA) and selling Medigap insurance (AARP).
Full disclosure: I took my Girl Scout troop to an event, sponsored by our GS Council, where NRA instructors taught us to shoot .22’s. We all enjoyed it!
Dear Denise Barney:
Glad you had such fun. It’s always been my experience women–and girls–really enjoy shooting. Our school has always had girls on our award winning NROTC rifle team.
That well spoken, articulate anti-gun student activist from Parkland? One of those grief stricken and traumatized children that were able to strategize, plan, and roll out a national anti-NRA protest plan in a few days? The one that was defending the FBI after they dropped the ball twice and failed to even contact Nicholas Cruz?
His father is a retired FBI agent.

Purest coincidence. Random chance they are going after one of President Trump’s first and biggest support groups. Future Special Agent Hogg will go far in DC.
Dear rd:
Thanks for the link. I’m doing my part to spread that particular word.
We need to change the laws in Florida and nationally to allow and encourage school districts to arm administrators, janitors, and teachers that want to defend their students. It works in Texas, Ohio, and Utah. It works in Israel, where terrorist monsters want to kill Jewish children.
Parkland High had one (1) school resource officer for 3,000 students and how many buildings on campus? Reportedly, the one, single resource officer was not even present on campus Wednesday, February 14.
I belive that if, by some chance, all privately owned firearms were magically removed, the only people who would be safer are politicians and violent criminals. The remainder would be forced to rely on the politicians to protect us from the criminals, ceding ever more power to the state.
