Regular readers are aware of the Erik Scott case (archive available here), which chronicles the murder of West Point Graduate Erik Scott by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in 2010. during my research on that case, I met Bill Scott, Erik’s father, and former Air Force Officer and flight test engineer, pilot, aviation journalist, and author.
Bill too has been writing about Erik’s death, and has published a thriller titled The Permit, with a plot based, loosely, on what happened to Erik. I wholeheartedly commend it to you.
Bill also maintains a website, and his most recent article is timely indeed. As a police officer, I had to consider what I would do if given an illegal, unconstitutional or even an immoral order. With eight years of the age of Obama nearly behind us, and at least four years of a second Clinton Administration looming, every American police officer must have an answer to that question–it’s highly likely they’ll have to make that choice–and be prepared to choose sides: the side of an unlawful cult of personality, or the side of the Constitution and the people whose consent gives our government its powers.
By all means, take the link and read: Allegiance vs Oath: Cops Must Decide Now.
