Barack Obama began his reign as America’s first Emperor, Barack The First, with a world apology tour, which was going to make America respected again after the horrors of the George W. Bush years. Of course Mr. Obama assumed that the magnificence of his person, his on-again, off-again blackness, his Muslim street cred, and his obvious loathing of America and Americans would make the leaders of the nations fall in love with him, just as he is in love with him. He can’t resist himself, how could they? He would transform America, and he would transform the world. Now, nearly eight years later, we discover Mr. Obama has transformed the world, and as a result, may be resisted with previously unimaginable ease, as The NY Post reports:
This is the closest they’ve come to seeing eye to eye.
President Obama gave Vladimir Putin the death stare Monday as the two leaders met at the G-20 summit in China, where they discussed a host of global issues, including a potential cease-fire in Syria.
Following the informal, 90-minute sidelines meeting in the city of Hangzhou, Obama revealed that he and the Russian president talked about how they could reach ‘a meaningful, serious, verifiable cessation of hostilities in Syria’ and about Ukraine, which Russia invaded in 2014.
But even though Obama described their chat as ‘candid, blunt and businesslike,’ he acknowledged it didn’t yield a breakthrough.
‘Given the gaps of trust that exist, that’s a tough negotiation,’ Obama said after the meeting. ‘We haven’t yet closed the gaps.’
The commander in chief suggested that the United States has concerns about whether Russia would hold up its end of an agreement, if one is reached.
Seeing “eye to eye,” for Mr. Obama, apparently means “accomplishing nothing but fecklessly hectoring Vladimir Putin.” It was pathetic to watch. Barack Obama, the mom jeans wearing, women’s bike riding, pot smoking, wannabe Chicago thug/pajama boy trying to intimidate Vladimir Putin, the judo black belt, KGB-trained, Russian dictator who could swat Obama like a fly, and Obama, oblivious to it all.
Mr. Obama also managed to annoy, according to The LA Times, the President of the Phillipines, Rodrigo Duterte, who, in a colorful rant, called Mr. Obama–in Tagalog–a “son of a whore,” causing Mr. Obama to cancel his planned meeting with Duterte. Mr. Duterte, who apparently has a penchant for unfiltered, colorful language, has since apologized.
But that wasn’t enough, no. Mr. Obama began his term as emperor by grossly and repeatedly insulting the British, and he couldn’t resist doing it again on his G-20 trip. As The Sun reports, Mr. Obama repeated his opinion that England made a mistake by bailing out of the European Union, and reissued his threat that England would be “at the back of the queue” for trade deals. The British, as the Queen might say, were not amused:
Mr. Obama infuriated Leave campaigners in the run-up to the EU referendum by claiming we would be ‘at the back of the queue’ for trade deals.
He was attacked for travelling to the UK ahead of the vote and urging Brits to choose Remain in a press conference with David Cameron.
And at the G20 conference in China he appeared with the new Prime Minister Theresa May, and openly said that the 17 million who backed Brexit were wrong.
But IDS, the former Conservative leader, said of Mr Obama’s comments: ‘Who cares what he says? He’s going. Bye bye.’
He told The Sun: ‘All the congressmen and senators I’ve spoken to have all said ‘When you’re ready to do a trade deal, we’ll step up to the plate’. We’re both free traders, it will take one or two years.
‘The only trade deal the US has in train at the moment is TTIP, and everyone is saying that is dead. Congress won’t ratify it as they would have to make too many compromises to please the EU.
‘It’s [Obama’s] vanity project. The truth is, no really cares what he says.
Just because the British democratically and openly decided to leave the EU is meaningless if Barack Obama disapproves. What’s democracy compared to he who lowers the seas and heals the planet? And if all of that wasn’t enough, the always face-conscious Chinese delivered up a doubt serving of “son of a whore” by refusing to provide a staircase and red carpet entrance for Mr. Obama as he disembarked from Air Force One, as The New York Times reports:
Air Force One had a bumpy landing in Hangzhou on Saturday, but it was nothing compared with what happened after the plane rolled to a stop.
As the reporters who traveled to the Group of 20 summit meeting with President Obama from Hawaii piled out and walked under the wing to record his arrival, we were abruptly met by a line of bright blue tape, held taut by security guards. In six years of covering the White House, I had never seen a foreign host prevent the news media from watching Mr. Obama disembark.
When a White House staff member protested to a Chinese security official that this was not normal protocol, the official shouted, “This is our country.”
In another departure from protocol, there was no rolling staircase for Mr. Obama to descend in view of the television cameras. Instead, he emerged from a door in the belly of the plane that he usually uses only on high-security trips, like those to Afghanistan.
Witnessing the scene, Susan E. Rice, the national security adviser, looked baffled and annoyed. Joined by her deputy, Benjamin J. Rhodes, she ducked under the rope to make her way closer to the president. The two were immediately stopped by the same Chinese official, who angrily challenged them. Asked later what happened, a diplomatic Ms. Rice replied, “They did things that weren’t anticipated.”
There were further surprises. At the West Lake State House, where Mr. Obama met President Xi Jinping, White House aides, protocol officers and Secret Service agents got into a series of shouting matches over how many Americans should be allowed into the building before Mr. Obama’s arrival. There were fears the confrontation would become physical.
Since these obvious humiliations, Mr. Obama and his minions have claimed these slights were merely misunderstandings, spinning abject humiliation into Mr. Obama’s brilliantly handling misunderstandings that could have gotten in the way of yet another amazing Obama foreign policy accomplishment, whatever that might end up being–or not.
Mr. Obama’s imperious arrogance continues to catch up with him, and in dramatic fashion. The idea that the Chinese behavior is a misunderstanding is lame even for Barack Obama. The Chinese knew exactly what they were doing and why. They’re a top-down dictatorship. Minor officials acting on their own without explicit orders from above tend to find themselves imprisoned, beaten, sent to gulags or executed. The Chinese have no respect for Barack Obama, nor do the British, the Filipinos, and certainly not Vladimir Putin. The idea that Putin will make nice with Mr. Obama in the few months before he leaves office (we’ll see–if he’ll leave office) and give up foreign policy successes to the benefit of Mr. Obama’s legacy is delusion of the first order. As a matter of fact, it’s virtually impossible to think of a foreign leader that respects Barack Obama. Most dangerously, it’s virtually impossible to think of one that fears him.
Mr. Obama’s vaunted “pivot” to Asia when most of the danger in the world was and remains in the Middle East, is just another foreign policy debacle. It has encouraged the Chinese to aggressively pursue domination of the Pacific. Man made islands doubling as stationary aircraft carriers and missile launch platforms, aggressive threats against regional powers, including the Japanese and Filipinos, and a massive military buildup, fueled in part by stolen American secrets, have all exposed Mr. Obama’s “pivot” as just another bit of flaccid rhetoric, easy to ignore or ridicule at will.
And in the Persian Gulf, our good friends and allies, the Iranians, are up to their usual respect for Mr. Obama and America:
Iranian vessels from its Revolutionary Guard Corps harassed another U.S. Navy ship Sunday in the central Persian Gulf, a defense department official tells Fox News.
USS Firebolt, a coastal patrol ship, was shadowed by seven Iranian vessels. Three of the vessels came within 500 yards and shadowed Firebolt for eight minutes. Then one of the Iranian vessels broke off and raced in front of Firebolt and ‘came to a stop directly in front of the ship’ at a range of 100 yards, according to the official.
The U.S. Navy ship attempted multiple radio communications with the Iranian vessel, but there was no reply.
The U.S. ship took evasive action to ‘narrowly avoid’ the Iranian ship which stopped directly in front of it, according to the official.
‘Clearly the Iranian behavior has to change,’ Capt. Jeff Davis, a Pentagon spokesman, said Tuesday.
No it doesn’t. Iran obviously doesn’t think so, and is just as obviously insulting Barack Obama and America. It’s nothing the vaporization of any Iranian vessel behaving provocatively can’t change, but Mr. Obama would rather see captured and/or dead Americans than stand up for international law and America’s reputation and integrity.
Nor does Russia’s aggressive behavior have to change, as Fox News reports:
A Russian fighter jet zoomed within just 10 feet of a U.S. Navy spy plane over the Black Sea on Wednesday, the latest in a string of daring maneuvers involving Russian aircraft and the U.S. military, a defense official with knowledge of the incident told Fox News.
Mr. Obama cannot bear the idea that anyone has a lesser opinion of himself than his opinion of himself, so he turns diplomatic slaps in the face into misunderstandings. He tries to stare down Vladimir Putin while doing nothing to protect our vulnerable military assets. What he fails to understand is that Communist dictators like the Chinese and Russians do not operate on diplomatic niceties, but on constant calculations of risk and power. They have calculated that they can publically humiliate and verbally abuse not only Mr. Obama, but his high-ranking minions and run no rick of meaningful retaliation, and they are right.
For the Chinese, for all dictators, that’s a very encouraging sign. Once that calculation is made, once that risk is undertaken and there are no consequences–what’s Mr. Obama going to do, tell the Chinese and Russians and Iranians and Islamist terrorists they’re on the wrong side of history? They’re behaving provocatively and unprofessionally? Draw a red line?–it’s a very short step to risks that can and will cost thousands, perhaps millions, of lives.
The Chinese behavior toward Mr. Obama, ignoring for the sake of argument, the rest, is not just humiliating–it’s deadly dangerous. The few months left until January, 2017, may be the most dangerous in America’s history, not only for America, but for our allies, who have learned they cannot trust Barack Obama to honor America’s mutual defense obligations.
I can’t think of a better time to pray for the preservation of America, liberty, and western civilization.
