As regular readers know, since February, I’ve been participating in a writer’s cooperative known as the Watcher’s Council. That’s short, by the way, for “Watchers Of Weasels,” which is what the members of the Council do–watch for weasels and report on their depredations so you won’t have to.
Each week, the members of the Council submitted an article, and all of the members voted on their favorite of the week. It was an interesting concept, and I enjoyed participating, as some of the finest writers on the blogosphere were involved. As with all Internet writing, it was gratifying and frustrating. Articles on which I lavished considerable time and thought laid there, flat on the screen like a drowning Flounder, while article I dashed off without breaking a sweat would be lauded by one and all. There’s often no way to tell, and I’m certainly my own worst critic, particularly when it comes to dishing out praise.
But now we’re engaging in something new! We’ve transformed the Watcher’s Council website into WOW! Magazine. Our vision is to make it a sort of hybrid between Drudge and Instapundit, headlines and a photo to let readers know what’s coming, with a paragraph or two, and a link back to our home sites. The idea is not only to–hopefully–increase the traffic at our home sites, but to provide a convenient, daily stop on the blogosphere for readers looking for good content and commentary.
While none of us will be having our weekly contest, or forum any more, we think this is an equitable trade, and hope you do too! If you have a few minutes, take the preceding link and stop by. It may be worth your time.
