Those of us that have been entrusted with a job serving the public, even as a lowly police officer or teacher, understand what it means to avoid even the appearance of impropriety. We must, in appearance, and in fact, be even-handed, disinterested, scrupulously honest and non-partisan servants of those that pay our salaries. This is something drilled into us from the first days of our employment.
We need not attend law school to learn these lessons. Presumably those that do are taught such things. Presumably those that attend elite law schools are taught it more effectively. With great privilege comes great responsibility. Or perhaps they are taught that by virtue of their elite status, of their worldly perfection, they are exempt from the moral boundaries binding lesser mortals. Perhaps they are taught that rather than being burdened with responsibility, they are, instead, entitled. The good Professor Jacobson at Legal Insurrection is not so entitled:
What do you call an Attorney General who meets privately with the husband of person under FBI investigation, and only discloses it when asked?
This is the last straw for me, when it comes to Lynch.
I opposed my former law school classmate’s nomination because her congressional testimony indicated she would be too political. Events have confirmed my fears, from suggestions that “hate speech” might be prosecutable, to the threat to sue people who disagree with the administration on climate change, her political grandstanding on the North Carolina bathroom law, to the attempt to edit out references to Islam and ISIS from the 911 transcript of the Orlando terrorist.
None of that is quite as outrageous as the news today that Lynch met privately with Bill Clinton at the Phoenix airport for 30 minutes, a meeting that was revealed only when a local news crew asked her about it at a press conference. ABC15 reports:
‘Amid an ongoing investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of email and hours before the public release of the Benghazi report, US Attorney General Loretta Lynch met privately with former President Bill Clinton.
The private meeting took place on the west side of Sky Harbor International Airport on board a parked private plane.
Former President Clinton was visiting the Phoenix area and arrived to Sky Harbor Monday evening to depart.
Sources tell ABC15 Clinton was notified Lynch would be arriving at the airport soon and waited for her arrival.
Lynch was arriving in Phoenix for a planned visit as part of her national tour to promote community policing.
ABC15 asked Lynch about the meeting during her news conference at the Phoenix Police Department.
‘I did see President Clinton at the Phoenix airport as he was leaving and spoke to myself and my husband on the plane,’ said Lynch.
The private meeting comes as Lynch’s office is in charge of the ongoing investigation and potential charges involving Clinton’s email server.
The private meeting also occurred hours before the Benghazi report was released publicly involving Hillary Clinton and President Obama’s administration.
Lynch said the private meeting on the tarmac did not involve these topics.
‘Our conversation was a great deal about grandchildren, it was primarily social about our travels and he mentioned golf he played in Phoenix,” said Lynch Tuesday afternoon while speaking at the Phoenix Police Department.
Sources say the private meeting at the airport lasted around 30 minutes.
‘There was no discussion on any matter pending before the Department or any matter pending with any other body, there was no discussion of Benghazi, no discussion of State Department emails, by way of example I would say it was current news of the day, the Brexit decision and what it would mean,’ she said.
Let us review, gentle readers. Loretta Lynch is the Attorney General of the United States of America, the chief prosecutor of the nation. The FBI is currently investigating Hillary Clinton, the presumptive nominee of the Democrat Party–Lynch’s party–for President for innumerable felony violations of national security law. The evidence known to the public, on its face, is more than sufficient to suggest that Clinton has violated the law hundreds, perhaps thousands of times. She has, for years, endangered the security of our nation through her arrogance, incompetence, and efforts to hide her criminality. Based on only what is publically known, Clinton must be indicted and prosecuted. Keep in mind that through its intertwined investigation of the Clinton Foundation and its pay for play, quid pro quo enrichment during Hillary’s tenure as Secretary of State, Bill is also a potential future defendant. When the FBI presents its recommendations to Lynch, it falls to her, and no one else, to decide whether she will pursue charges against Hillary Clinton, yet she meets, in secret, for a half hour–or more–in a private jet with Bill “Bubba Horn Dog” Clinton, the ex-president and husband of convenience of Hillary Clinton, that man Hillary tells us, following her coronation, will be running the American economy.
Look in any legal dictionary under “appearance of impropriety” and you’ll find a photo of Lynch and Bubba yucking it up in a private jet. It would be difficult indeed to imagine a more egregious, obvious, blatant, “screw the peasants” in-your-face example than that. How any sentient being could so much as think of doing such a thing is beyond me. Any President whose Attorney General so crudely violated their ethical obligations should be demanding their immediate resignation because of their appalling lack of character and legal judgment.
Unfortunately, our President is the primary practitioner of egregious, blatant, “screw the peasants, in-your-face abuse of power. Under him, the Department of Justice has become a Mafia-like enforcer of political correctness, the thuggish arm of the Democrat party. We cannot expect him to uphold ethical, legal standards, quite the opposite.
No American can trust that their lives or property are safe. Democrat politicians complain that due process is preventing them from destroying the Second Amendment. They’re actually upset that one part of the Constitution constrains them from erasing another.
The media, democrat operatives with bylines, can be trusted not only to cover for the illegalities and immorality of the Clintons, Lynch and the Obamas, but to actively praise them.
Why did they meet in a private jet? Security. With an engine running to provide air conditioning, it would be very difficult, if not impossible, to eavesdrop electronically. Certainly, they tried to keep the meeting secret.
But Ms. Lynch claimed they only talked about golf and grandchildren! If you believe that, let me remind you I’m a Nigerian prince in exile, and if you give me your bank account number, I’ll deposit millions for safekeeping. On the other hand, it would not have been strictly necessary for them to talk about Hillary’s prosecution.
The mere fact of the meeting was meant to send a message, to intimidate FBI agents and their supervisors, and anyone else that dares oppose Hillary Clinton: Hillary is untouchable. She has the protection of the Attorney General and the President. She is above the law just as they are above the law. They are the law.
For this alone, Loretta Lynch can and should be impeached. She has demonstrated beyond any doubt her lack of fitness for her office. But she is black and female, double proof against the ethical and legal standards the rest of us must willingly obey.
If we install the Clintons in the White House, again, we’ll instill in them an even greater sense of arrogant entitlement and prove they’re right. God help us.
Update, 07-01-16 1245 CST: AG Lynch is not exactly sorry, but she won’t do it again:
Attorney General Loretta Lynch said Friday she will fully accept the recommendations of an FBI-led investigation into whether to bring charges against Hillary Clinton and her use of a private email sever while she was secretary of state.
‘I don’t have a role in these findings,’ Lynch said at a summit in Colorado. ‘They are acting independently.’
Lynch acknowledged an impromptu meeting with former President Bill Clinton earlier this week “cast a shadow” on public perception of the email investigation into his wife.
‘I certainly won’t do it again,’ Lynch said. ‘It has cast a shadow over this.
Isn’t that nice, gentle readers? She said she won’t arrange for two private jets to land at the same airport so she and Bill Clinton can have a clandestine meeting again. I feel so much better! Truth and justice once more bloom across the land!
I don’t for a moment think any of Bill Clinton’s staff would dare to tell him anything was inappropriate. If they wouldn’t do that when he took multiple trips on the “Lolita Express,” they certainly wouldn’t think to do it for a mere meeting with the Attorney General, who is not a nubile teenager, and almost certainly wasn’t naked. But Ms. Lynch certainly had staff with her, probably lawyers, who should have told her not to meet with Clinton.
And note too, gentle readers, her careful weasel words. She has said only that she will “fully accept” the FBI recommendations. I have no doubt she will “fully accept’ them, also thank them, fulsomely, for all of their hard work. What she has not said she will do is, if the recommendation is for prosecution, prosecute. And of course, even if she does prosecute, it is entirely possible that Mr. Obama, for the good of the nation, and to spare us the unimaginable horror of the prosecution of a former first lady and the presumptive Democrat nominee, pardon her.
But that would damage his legacy! Do you, gentle readers, really believe Barack Hussein Obama gives a hot damn what Americans think? Do you think the most lawless president in history would hesitate for a moment to turn justice, once more, on its head?
But a pardon would doom her chances for election! Really? Democrats would vote for her if she bit the heads off cute, squealing puppies and kittens on live TV, and this year, led by the likes of George Will, enough Republicans would stay home, and perhaps some would vote for her just to spite Trump, to ensure her election. Besides, it’s all a vast, right-wing conspiracy.
The FBI is said, by Fox News, to be “livid.” So should we all be.
Update 2, 07-01-16, 1440 CST: According to the Observer, AG Lynch was blind-sided by Bill Clinton:
We were waiting for her plane to touch down at the executive terminal area of Phoenix’s Sky Harbor where it’s best suited to control. Clinton’s plane was on the ground already. But he wasn’t there. We had been hoping to get him out before she arrived, just to avoid too much traffic. They [their planes] were 75 yards apart. We have a procedure we do to clear [space for] a motorcade. As we were ready to receive her, I saw the other motorcade coming in—we were like, ‘great timing.’
The source was being sarcastic in saying ‘great timing,’ indicating that it would have been better logistically for Clinton’s plane to take off before Lynch’s arrived, to avoid the congestion of two motorcades on the tarmac at once. The source indicated that Clinton’s people at the airport didn’t know what was taking Clinton’s motorcade so long to arrive and speculated that the delay was engineered specifically so that Clinton would not have left before Lynch arrived.
‘Then I see Clinton walking over. His detail guys ran over to hers and said he’s coming. ‘He’s closing.’ He walked straight there to the Air Force guy at the door and next thing I know he’s going up the steps [of her plane].” Asked about the Air Force detail, the source later clarified to the Observer that ‘There was an Air Force airman at the base of the stairs of the [Lynch] aircraft, as you always see on TV with POTUS.’
According to the source, ‘Nobody knew this was coming. We just knew to be aware there were other events going on. There was no planned meeting. It was just chance contact. The fact is, he just started walking over. I don’t think it was pre-arranged. He just started walking over and [even her security] can’t tell him, ‘you can’t do that.’ He walked in her plane for at least 20 to 25 minutes and the FBI is standing face to face with the Secret Service and just chatting on the hot tarmac like, ‘what the hell.’
According to the Observer’s source, Lynch’s staff immediately recognized the political problem the meeting would cause and were upset by it, but apparently, none did a thing to stop it. There is no mention of the staff recognizing it as an ethical/legal problem. Political concerns above all else, of course.
This changes nothing. The meeting took place, Lynch’s objectivity, to whatever degree it ever existed, is compromised beyond repair, and despite her non-apology apology, she has not agreed to prosecute if prosecution is warranted.
Mr. Obama and his drooling acolytes have transformed America into a banana republic.
Update III, 07-01-16, 1815 CST: As the day has worn on, Ms. Lynch has continued to walk back her walk back. She was, for a time, “expecting to accept” the recommendation of the FBI, and at last word, was back to making the final decision about any FBI recommendation.
So while she is, apparently, still saying she will never again arrange to meet with Bill Clinton in a private jet at any airport, nothing whatever has changed in terms of her handling of any potential prosecution, or more likely, refusal to prosecute.
Who coulda thunk it?
