A gaffe occurs when a politician accidently tells the truth. For Hillary Clinton, telling the truth is a rare thing indeed, so it’s understandable when the Media mistakes a daily example of lying for a gaffe. From Fox News:
Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton committed her second gaffe in as many days on the campaign trail Monday night, claiming that the U.S. ‘didn’t lose a single person’ in Libya during her time as secretary of state.
Clinton made the comment defending her push for regime change in the war-torn North African nation at an Illinois town hall hosted by MSNBC.
Uh, Mrs. Clinton is apparently forgetting the four Americans killed in Benghazi because she refused the additional security measures and personnel that might have saved their lives. She’s also apparently forgetting the video about which she lied, and the parents of the four dead Americans, who she has accused of lying about her lies to them. But hey, what difference, at this point, does it make?!
Now, is Libya perfect? It isn’t,’ Clinton said. After contrasting her approach toward Libya with the ongoing bloodshed in Syria’s civil war, Clinton said ‘Libya was a different kind of calculation and we didn’t lose a single person … We didn’t have a problem in supporting our European and Arab allies in working with NATO.
“We didn’t have a problem in supporting our European and Arab allies in working with NATO.” What the hell does that mean? That’s like asserting “We had no problem with the problem of working with our African and Asian allies in planning to work with the UN.” Libya was indeed a different kind of calculation; it was an outright, idiotic, disaster and Hillary’s fault, and plenty of people have died. I suppose it all depends on what the meaning of “lost” is. There was, however, one promise we can believe Hillary will keep:
Earlier Monday, Clinton’s campaign was forced to scramble to clarify comments she made about coal jobs at a CNN town hall Sunday night.
‘I’m the only candidate which has a policy about how to bring economic opportunity using clean renewable energy as the key into coal country,’ Clinton said, ‘because we’re going to put a lot of coal miners and coal companies out of business.
Ah yes! She has a plan that is the “key to coal country,” if that key locks the lock to the dungeon into which the denizens of “coal country” will be thrown to rot.
And what is this magical “clean, renewable energy” that will be Hillary’s salvation of coal country? Solar? We know how well that has worked out under Barack Obama. Wind power? Ditto. Natural gas? Check out this headline via Powerline: Obama To Energy Producers: Drop Dead.
U.S. regulators rejected Veresen Inc.’s multibillion-dollar proposal to build a terminal in Oregon that would export as many as two tankers of natural gas a week. They also denied its plan to build a pipeline with Williams Partners LP to supply gas to the terminal.
Williams and Veresen failed to demonstrate that the pipeline’s benefits would outweigh the “adverse effects on landowners,” the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission said Friday in an order denying authorization. And without a pipeline supplying gas, the Jordan Cove export terminal “can provide no benefit to the public to counterbalance” the impacts associated with its construction, the agency said.
But thank goodness we’ve been fortunate enough to have an oil boom, even though Mr. Obama, and every member of his administration, including Hillary Clinton, did all they could to oppose it:
The Obama administration will abandon its plan to allow new offshore oil drilling on the U.S. southeast coast, dealing a blow to petroleum companies that had hopes of tapping new reserves.
The Interior Department announced Tuesday that it will not auction off drilling rights for Atlantic Ocean waters off the coast of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.
We can be reasonably certain that Mrs. Clinton will also support such enlightened energy policies. Back to Fox:
With many workers in crucial primary states like Ohio and Illinois relying on such jobs, Clinton’s campaign put out a statement stressing that, ‘Coal will remain a part of the energy mix for years to come’ and Clinton’s plan would also safeguard workers’ retirement and health benefits.
Spokesman Brian Fallon said ‘no candidate in this race is more devoted to supporting coal communities than Hillary Clinton’ and ‘any suggestions otherwise are false.
Really?! Even this? “I’m the only candidate which has a policy about how to bring economic opportunity using clean renewable energy as the key into coal country, because we’re going to put a lot of coal miners and coal companies out of business.”
And how, pray tell, will Mrs. Clinton secure workers’ retirements and health benefits? What about people who don’t have enough time in to retire? How will she support them and their families when they lose their jobs to the delight of greenies? What of the communities dependent on coal and the jobs and revenues it provides? What of everyone whose survival depends on the many industries that support to coal and coal power industries? What of the fact that we have no reliable, affordable energy source to replace coal?
Consider this from the editors of the NY Post:
In fact, this is standard Democratic policy: President Obama’s been throwing coal miners out of work for seven years now, aiming to deliver on his 2008 pledge to “bankrupt” the coal industry.
But most Dems have the sense to pretend they’re just protecting the environment — and bashing business, ’natch.
Fine, Clinton quickly followed with a vow to dole out $30 billion for job retraining and to cover early-retirement costs for the workers she’ll get fired.
But retrain for what? Name a single working-class industry that the modern Democratic Party actually favors. (And, no, “green jobs” don’t count: They exist almost exclusively in liberal rhetoric.)
In fact, if Clinton keeps up with the honesty, she’ll tell the voters of other industries she means to destroy — oil, for sure, and probably natural gas, too. (Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s already led the way there with his ban on fracking.) And, hey, aren’t those evil Koch brothers big in (ick!) manufacturing?
And here we see at least some of Clinton’s motivation, beyond Progressive orthodoxy against the fuels that make civilization possible:
OK, Democrats have already lost the coal vote. When Obama took office, coal-producing US House districts were evenly split. Now they’re 90 percent Republican.
To see how shameful the Democrats’ betrayal is, look to history: The coal miners’ union, the United Mine Workers of America, has one of the nation’s proudest records on race. Its founding constitution of 1890 barred discrimination based on race, religion or national origin.
By 1900, some 20,000 black miners made the union about 20 percent African-American. And the UMWA stuck by those ideals all the way up to fighting to end apartheid.
Hillary Clinton: Serial liar, traitor, criminal, poser, know-nothing, destroyer of the economies of multiple states. Just what we need to follow Barack Obama in the White House.
