In the aftermath of terrorist attacks, one can always count on President Obama and his buffoonish followers in the Administration to blame America first, to defend and justify her enemies, and to say profoundly stupid and insulting things. With the Paris attacks, they have outdone themselves.
Mr. Obama called the attacks a “setback”:
There will be setbacks and there will be successes. The terrible events in Paris were obviously a terrible and sickening setback.
Because everything is all about him, Mr. Obama spoke of his marvelous strategy that has been so stunningly successful in countering Islamist terrorism:
There will be an intensification of the strategy that we’ve put forward,” he said. “But the strategy that we are putting forward is the strategy that ultimately is going to work.
So, sending our air assets on raids—in essence merely burning avgas–but refusing to allow them to release weapons is “ultimately going to work?” Admitting to America tens of thousands of “Syrian refugees,” a significant portion of whom will surely be Islamist terrorists, is a successful strategy? And isn’t his “strategy” the very one that enabled and produced the Paris attacks? That’s leading from behind for you.
I wouldn’t have thought it possible, but Secretary of State John Kerry—remember him? He was the Democrat candidate for president not long ago—said something even more idiotic, a new low for an Administration already scraping the bottom of the Mariana Trench:
In the last days, obviously, that has been particularly put to the test. There’s something different about what happened from Charlie Hebdo, and I think everybody would feel that. There was a sort of particularized focus and perhaps even a legitimacy in terms of – not a legitimacy, but a rationale that you could attach yourself to somehow and say, okay, they’re really angry because of this and that.
Ah, so the terrorists the murdered so many during the Charlie Hebdo attacks, including at a Jewish deli/market, had a legitimate grievance and/or motivation, a rationale that we can understand and with which we can sympathize. Remember, gentle readers, this is the Secretary of State of the United States saying this.
This Friday was absolutely indiscriminate. It wasn’t to aggrieve one particular sense of wrong. It was to terrorize people. It was to attack everything that we do stand for. That’s not an exaggeration. It was to assault all sense of nationhood and nation-state and rule of law and decency, dignity, and just put fear into the community and say, ‘Here we are.
Yes, Mr. Kerry, they did it to say “yoo hoo! Here we are; we’re over here! They’re just adolescent hooligans who want attention and want to act outrageously to annoy the grown ups. Read on, gentle readers. For a moment—a fleeting moment—Kerry almost sounds rational, but of course, that can’t last:
And for what? What’s the platform? What’s the grievance? That we’re not who they are? They kill people because of who they are and they kill people because of what they believe. And it’s indiscriminate. They kill Shia. They kill Yezidis. They kill Christians. They kill Druze. They kill Ismaili. They kill anybody who isn’t them and doesn’t pledge to be that. And they carry with them the greatest public display of misogyny that I’ve ever seen, not to mention a false claim regarding Islam. It has nothing to do with Islam; it has everything to do with criminality, with terror, with abuse, with psychopathism – I mean, you name it.
“It has nothing to do with Islam.” Let’s see: ISIL—“Islamic State In The Levant.” Hmmm. Nothing to do with Islam? Didn’t the Muslims that comprise the “Islamic State” name themselves the “Islamic State”? Why yes, I believe they did. That would seem to suggest that these particular Muslims consider themselves to be followers of Islam, thus Islamic.
Consider the thinking of Mr. Kerry. It will only take a few seconds. Islamist terrorists were justified in attacking Charlie Hebdo because they insulted Islam, which is the justification claimed by Islamists, but of course, that had nothing to do with Islam. The simultaneous attack on the Jewish deli/market, which presumably never insulted Islam—except by existing—had nothing to do with Islam as well? Doesn’t the Koran exhort Muslims to kill Jews? Doesn’t it exhort Muslims to kill infidels? Why yes, it does. Islamists around the globe say, every day, that every atrocity they commit and intend to commit is all about Islam, but Mr. Kerry knows better. He knows that when they refer to Islam, they’re not really referring to Islam, unless they are.
With people like John Kerry and Barack Obama representing the interests of the United States, it’s a miracle every American citizen wasn’t required to surrender their underwear and car keys as part of the Iran deal.
But at least we’ll know when Islamist terrorists that are absolutely not motivated by Islam murder us and our families on American soil, they are not motivated by Islam, and their grievances have a “legitimacy,” even a “rationale.” We’ll feel so much better about the slaughter of our families and ourselves. For progressives, it’s all about feelings.
