Among the most damaging factors of progressivism is its insistence on ignoring human nature. Progressives believe that man is perfectible if only the right—progressive—policies and laws can be written and forced down the collective throats of the populace. Without such policies and laws, most Americans—the non-progressive, gun and God clinging, fly-over country living types particularly—will inevitably be racist, sexist, and every other “ist” one would care to name. They’ll use the wrong light bulbs, use too much water to flush their toilets, and actually try to preserve human beings at the expense of obscure bait fish! Why, the horrors non-progressives practice know no limits, which is why progressives must work so hard to limit them. It is not enough that others behave properly, but that they be forced to think and speak properly as well.

These days, the ignorance of human nature consists in large part of refusing to accept that there are differences in the sexes, and in many cases, mandating that everyone ignore them, as this report from the University of Toronto, via The Daily Wire:

The administration at the University of Toronto was recently enlightened on why two separate washrooms are generally established for men and women sharing co-ed residencies.

The University is temporarily changing its policy on gender-neutral bathrooms after two separate incidents of ‘voyeurism’ were reported on campus September 15 and 19. Male students within the University’s Whitney Hall student residence were caught holding their cellphones over female students’ shower stalls and filming them as they showered.

What?! How can this be? Who could possibly have predicted this?  The U of T is politically correct! It’s doing everything possible to deny the existence of separate genders, yet this happens? Don’t those “male students” appreciate the great benefits bestowed upon them by progressives? Don’t they know they’ve been liberated from the oppression of gender expectations?

Melinda Scott, dean of students at the University of Toronto, told The Daily Wire that campus police had been contacted immediately and worked with residence staff to ‘support impacted students and ensure the safety of the Residences.’

‘Given the serious nature of these incidents and the impact on directly affected students, we made the decision to specifically designate some washrooms in Whitney Hall for those who identify as men and those who identify as women,’ Scott said.

Are you, gentle readers, experiencing the odd feeling that it is no longer possible to tell the difference between satire, parody and reality? “Support impacted students?” It sounds like they’ve been in a car accident. And of what would such “support” consist, exactly? Trying to force the young ladies to believe even more strongly in gender confusion? This is good:

The Daily Wire contacted the University dean and staff members and asked them how they could be unfeeling enough to force men to use men’s washrooms and women to use women’s washrooms.

‘What does the University have to say to this?’ The Daily Wire demanded. ‘How could the University be so intolerant?

You can see this one coming from miles away…

The University defended itself, asserting that ‘more than 50% of the washrooms in the residence remain gender-neutral.’

Of course the University maintained it would not be so intolerant as to limit men and women to designated bathrooms. Instead, it is a ‘temporary measure’ to ‘provide a safe space for the women who have been directly impacted by the incidents of voyeurism and other students who may feel more comfortable in a single gender washroom in the wake of these events.’

This makes perfect sense: some students are bigots and would prefer to not get naked in the presence of strangers of the opposite sex.

Hmm. “A safe space.” Like separate bathrooms for men and women? Nah. That would be (fill in the blank) ist.

There are more than enough similar American examples. Western society may be becoming irredeemably trivial and stupid.
