This article–Barack Obama, Muslims And Intelligence–originally published in September of 2012, and resurrected in July of 2014 has continued to demonstrate considerable prescience. A visit to the link for the entire article may be worth your time, but please, gentle readers, consider this excerpt:

The last three Democrat presidents have conclusively proved Democrats have little or no interest in foreign affairs, and similarly little ability in dealing with foreign policy.  Jimmy Carter’s presidency was defined in large part by the Iranian hostage debacle, brought on by a fundamental misunderstanding of the nature of the threat of Islamic society and goals and a concurrent inability to effectively deal with the threat.

It is particularly ironic that Barack Obama has turned to Bill Clinton for his blessing and in the apparent hope that some of his gravitas might rub off on Mr. Obama.  He is, after all, the only President convicted of perjury in office, and only the second president impeached.  He also lost his law license in the bargain (no doubt a Chicago machine politician considers these features rather than bugs). It was Bill (and Hillary) Clinton whose disdain for our military was the stuff of legend, and who almost single-handedly (they did have help from Al Gore) destroyed America’s human intelligence gathering capabilities.  That near-complete lack of intelligence gathering ability led directly to 9-11, and it plagues America today.  His many prejudices and many cases of misfeasance and malfeasance are well documented in Lt. Col. (USAF Ret.) Buzz Patterson’s book, Dereliction of Duty: Eyewitness Account of How Bill Clinton Compromised America’s National Security.  The cover photo of Mr. Clinton shows him—appropriately—with a golf tee in his mouth.

In addition, Mr. Clinton turned down multiple offers to capture Osama Bin Laden long before 9-11.  Multiple first person accounts exist that indicate clearly that Mr. Clinton allowed Bin Laden to escape because he did not understand or care about the danger Bin Laden and those sharing his ideology represented, not just to the United States, but the world.  It was all about him; he just couldn’t be bothered.

The article goes on to note that Mr. Clinton actually refused to meet, face to face–ever–with his hand-picked CIA director. If Mr. Obama indeed hoped that Bill Clinton would rub off on him–perhaps like Mr. Clinton’s–ahem–transfer on the blue dress?–his hopes appear to have been realized, according to Wallace Russell Mead at the American Interest:

Obama

THE ENDGAME IN SYRIA

Fecklessness 101

Apparently the Obama administration turned down a Russian offer to dump Assad… because the Administration was sure he was going to fall on his own. The Guardian reports:

‘[Former Finnish president and Nobel peace prize laureate Martti] Ahtisaari held talks with envoys from the five permanent members of the UN security council in February 2012. He said that during those discussions, the Russian ambassador, Vitaly Churkin, laid out a three-point plan, which included a proposal for Assad to cede power at some point after peace talks had started between the regime and the opposition.

But he said that the US, Britain and France were so convinced that the Syrian dictator was about to fall, they ignored the proposal.

‘It was an opportunity lost in 2012,’ Ahtisaari said in an interview.[..]

At the time of Ahtisaari’s visit to New York, the death toll from the Syrian conflict was estimated to be about 7,500. The UN believes that toll passed 220,000 at the beginning of this year, and continues to climb. The chaos has led to the rise of Islamic State. Over 11 million Syrians have been forced out of their homes.’

If true, this was a staggering missed opportunity. The President’s string of misjudgments on the Middle East—on the peace process, Erdogan, withdrawal from Iraq, Libya, ISIS as the “J.V. team”, and Syria—is one of the most striking examples of serial failure in the annals of American foreign policy.

Generally speaking, what the President seems worst at is estimating the direction in which events are flowing… He has repeatedly been caught flatfooted by events in Syria. And Putin keeps running rings around him.

There is no reason to imagine that Ahtisaari is not telling the truth, and every reason, based on Mr. Obama’s voluminous record of cluelessness and abject and expensive failure to believe Ahtisaari. One would always want to be cautious of Russians bearing gifts, but it seems that in 2012, Putin thought it to his advantage to push Assad out, and Mr. Obama wasn’t savvy enough to see any advantage for America. A lack of insight that has cost hundreds of thousands of lives and certainly helped to empower untold numbers of terrorists.

Or perhaps he did see advantage and didn’t want America to have it? Remember, this was the man who sided in Egypt with the Muslim Brotherhood, one of the worst Islamist terrorist organizations in the world. That worked out splendidly, didn’t it? Oh yes, let’s not forget that Huma Abedin, Hillary Clinton’s close confidant and aide during her tenure as Secretary of State and thereafter is a member of a Muslim family with very tight ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. Her personal ties are no less binding and telling.

I suspect that after Mr. Obama leaves office, we will begin to learn of betrayals and mistakes that will make what we already know seem no more vile than failing to throw a used Kleenex entirely in the wastebasket. Unfortunately, Mr. Obama, on his way out the door, will probably pardon anyone and everyone that could possibly do him any legal harm, so there will be little or no satisfaction in the just deserts/rule of law sense, but we haven’t been used to the rule of law for at least six and a half years anyway, so…
