What do we know? While Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton established a private, unauthorized, unsecure e-mail server in the basement of her New York Home, a server that was almost certainly hacked by China, Russia, and probably other nations, including various allies. How do we know this? Brietbart reports:
A former top intelligence official for the Obama administration believes that it is ‘very likely’ that countries like China and Russia–and maybe even Iran and North Korea–hacked into Hillary Clinton’s private email account while she was secretary of state.
Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn–who ran the Defense Intelligence Agency, which is the sister agency to the CIA, for the Obama administration–told Fox News’s Megyn Kelly on Monday that there is a “very high” probability that nations hostile the United States hacked into Clinton’s private server, which cybersecurity experts have determined had numerous security lapses.
According to a Weekly Standard transcript of the exchange:
Kelly asked, ‘What do you think the odds are that the Chinese, the Russians hacked into that server and her e-mail account?’
‘Very high,’ Flynn said without hesitation. ‘Likely.’
‘Yep. Likely. They’re very good at it. China, Russia, Iran, potentially the North Koreans. And other countries who may be ‘our allies’ because they can.
We know that Mrs. Clinton was required by Federal policy and law to turn over all e-mails to the government before leaving office, and she did not. We know that when news of her improper, unsecure server, which she used virtually exclusively for State Department business, came to light, she told all manner of lies about her reasons for establishing it, and about her use of it, among them: the claim she did it for “convenience,” so she would only have to use a single device. That was quickly exposed as a lie by Mrs. Clinton herself who admitted she had at least three separate devices.
For an accurate and insightful timeline/report of the burgeoning debacle, visit my friend, Bookworm.
We know that Mrs. Clinton turned over only about half–if anything she says can be believed–of the e-mails on that server, herself deciding, against federal policy and law, which e-mails related to her government service and which were private. We also know that she gave various attorneys, people without security clearances, and almost certainly, various of her loyal minions, access to those e-mails so they could review and cleanse them. We know that at her direction, the hard drive of that server was wiped clean, though it is possible it may be reconstructed to at least some degree, and it is also possible it may have been copied and copies retained. If so, there will be no end to Mrs. Clinton’s troubles as the truth about her indifference to American security is revealed.
We know that two Inspectors General investigated Mrs. Clinton’s e-mail use and in a random sample of 40 of the remaining e-mails, found four containing classified information from five different intelligence agencies. We also know that Mrs. Clinton swore that she never used her personal account for classified information, an assertion she and her minions have been walking back, bit by bit, since as new revelations expose ever more Clinton lies.
We also know that Clinton’s top aide, Huma Abedin who has intimate connections to the Muslim Brotherhood, which is true for every member of her immediate family, and another top aide, Cheryl Mills, both had accounts on Clinton’s server.
We know that merely mishandling classified material, such as putting it on an unsecured, unauthorized server or wireless device, is a federal felony. Mrs. Clinton has arguably committed a great many crimes, and the FBI is currently investigating.
And it continues to get worse by the day:
The number of Hillary Clinton emails flagged for potentially classified content has grown to more than 300, Fox News has learned — with the potential to grow even more as officials scramble to screen the documents.
The State Department revealed the updated count in a federal court filing, which pertained to Clinton emails sent to other agencies for review. An official familiar with the investigation confirmed to Fox News that, as referenced in that filing, the department has recommended 305 of Clinton’s emails be sent to various agencies for review to see whether they contain classified information.
The number could continue to rise as officials comb through more documents; the past three State Department releases have contained a total of 63 classified emails to date.
That’s 63 confirmed classified to date. Each single document represents a separate felony offense, even multiple offenses. Tens of thousands of e-mails have yet to be examined, and are being examined by the State Department, which is doing its best to protect Clinton and to downplay her involvement, only because it is under court order with a very specific timeline for production of the information. As is her usual practice, she has tried to play the “right wing conspiracy” card:
On the trail, she recently tried to downplay the controversy with a joke. ‘By the way, you may have seen that I recently launched a Snapchat account. I love it, I love it. Those messages disappear all by themselves,’ she said.
New Jersey Gov., Republican presidential candidate and former U.S. Attorney Chris Christie said:
Her arrogance is breathtaking. I worked for the federal government for seven years as a U.S. attorney. It was made clear to all of us when we walked in the door, official business is done on your official email account.
We also know that attempts to defend Clinton know no bounds of decency or delusion. Eleni Kounalakis, staunch Democrat, former ambassador to Hungary under Hillary Clinton (she left that post in 2013), and recently appointed head of “Greek-Americans for Hillary,” recently wrote an opinion piece titled:
Hillary Clinton revived America’s reputation in world.
It is not for nothing that CNN has, for decades, been referred to as the “Clinton News Network.” Some excerpts:
In a recent opinion piece posted on CNN, Carly Fiorina launched a deeply unfair and profoundly inaccurate attack on Hillary Clinton’s record as secretary of state. Fiorina went so far as to insinuate that Hillary Clinton did not have even one single accomplishment in that role. She could not be more wrong. I should know; I served with her as U.S. ambassador to Hungary and watched her fight for the American people every day.
Her record of achievement is as diverse as it is historic. Clinton pushed hard for the United States to “pivot” to Asia. She established the tough sanctions against Iran that led to the recently signed nuclear agreement. She shined a light on the plight of Burmese political prisoner Aung San Suu Kyi, helping to orchestrate her release.
These are all historic achievements. But to name any one, single event of Clinton’s tenure is to overlook her most important contribution: rebuilding America’s relationships with friends, allies and partners around the world.
Extraordinary. The “pivot to Asia” was in name only, and has resulted primarily in a massive Chinese arms buildup, including the construction of a number of artificial island military bases, and unchecked Chinese aggression throughout the region. The sanctions about which Kounalakis speaks were imposed by the Congress and vigorously resisted by the Obama Administration, and are now being thrown away with the left hand while the right hands the Iranians a $150 billion dollar pile of cash. Mrs. Clinton “shined a light on the plight” of a Burmese political prisoner? That’s the best Kounalakis can do? One must at least give Kounalakis credit for some honesty, but that’s hardly a historic achievement, and others did far, far more.
For three and a half years at my post in Budapest, I started my mornings reading Clinton’s daily schedule. Hillary Clinton traveled to more countries than any other secretary in the history of the department, logging nearly a million miles and visiting 112 nations. She visited countries that hadn’t had a U.S. secretary of state visit for up to five decades (Laos) or ever (Togo). After all, America can never have enough friends.
Ah yes. Mrs. Clinton traveled a million miles and shook quite a few hands. And the results of that traveling and hand shaking (cue chirping crickets)?
Wherever she went, Clinton was met as a peer by the world’s most powerful leaders.
Wow! The Secretary of State of the United States of America was met by high-ranking members of foreign governments when she visited those countries. That’s certainly never happened before…what’s that? That’s the protocol shown to every Secretary Of State, not just Mrs. Clinton? Oh. Well, this is really an important accomplishment:
I led Embassy Budapest during a challenging time in U.S.-Hungarian relations. During that time, Clinton came to Budapest for a day-long visit. Her engagement did not make headlines in the United States. Her work that day would strike few people as her ‘single most important accomplishment’ in that office. But for many Hungarians and members of the European Union, her practical and nuanced diplomatic intervention in Hungary made obvious her clear-eyed leadership and America’s unparalleled strength.
Double wow! “Practical and nuanced diplomatic intervention in Hungary!” Uh, what, exactly did she do? What was the crisis? What resolution did she negotiate, exactly? Ambassador? Hello…?
In short, here is my answer to Fiorina’s question:
Diplomatically, without bluster or bullying, without stealing headlines or focusing on her own legacy, Hillary Clinton rebuilt the network of American relationships around the globe. This is certainly her most important legacy and fundamental to the future of American leadership in the world.
Ah! So that’s what it’s called in diplo-speak when our allies don’t trust or respect us, terrorist armies are on the march, seizing parts of entire countries, Russia is seizing and threatening its neighbors–what a reset!–and our enemies don’t fear us.
By all means, take the link and read the entire piece. I have not omitted any more convincing “accomplishments.”
Remember that CIA Director General David Petraeus was convicted of misusing classified materials, and lost his job as CIA director. Petraeus didn’t use an unsecured server. He didn’t expose classified materials to hostile foreign hacking. He merely shared some materials with his biographer, who also had a security clearance.
We already know of at least four confirmed federal felonies committed by Mrs. Clinton. While Clinton and her minions, and their many supporters and apologists claim that Clinton didn’t know the documents were classified, or they weren’t classified at the time, or someone removed the classifications, or the dog ate her homework after she slipped on a banana peel, none of this matters. Under federal law, there are no excuses, no caveats. In short order, it will almost certainly be confirmed that there were hundreds, if not thousands, of classified documents and communications exposed by Mrs. Clinton’s paranoid and criminal desire to hide her actions from the public, the Congress and investigators.
Will she be prosecuted? That’s going to be entirely up to Barack Obama. On one hand, Mr. Obama absolutely hates Bill and Hillary Clinton, which is no secret. On the other, he frolicked with them over the weekend, apparently sending a signal of at least some support. Based on only what has been thus far confirmed, Mrs. Clinton should be prosecuted, but she is, after all, the Democrat front-runner for President, and the woman who will almost certainly support virtually all of Mr. Obama’s worst excesses once in office.
One wonders how many classified documents must come to light–hundreds? Thousands?–before Democrats will rightfully throw Mrs. Clinton under the bus. Until that happens, prosecution is a virtual impossibility.
It is not outside the realm of possibility that Mr. Obama will issue a blanket pardon for Clinton and any of her minions who could do substantial damage to his legacy. I have long suspected that as the end of his time in office draws near, America will see a blizzard of pardons unprecedented in American history. It is also not outside the realm of possibility that Bill and Hillary Clinton know where a great many of Mr. Obama’s bodies are buried, and if pressed, would be willing and ready to destroy whatever warped legacy Mr. Obama hopes to establish. Hillary would not have to so much as hint of such a thing. At those political levels, the threats are well known and need not be spoken.
Barack Obama makes decisions based almost entirely on what he believes best for Barack Obama.
But how could Mr. Obama justify such a pardon when others have been fined and jailed for far less egregious abuses of national security? Barack Obama need justify nothing. He can do what he pleases and get away with it. The Congress has proved that time and time again. The only consequence of his lawlessness has been declining approval numbers. Mr. Obama is busily planning his post-presidency and the acquisition of his rapidly increasing personal fortune. What does he care about poll numbers, national security, or America?
Come to think of it, what does Hillary Clinton care about any of that?
UPDATE, 081715, 2005 CST: Powerline reports that Ms. Kounalakis is also a million dollar fund raising bundler for Mrs. Clinton. Not exactly a disinterested, distinguished diplomat that thinks Mrs. Clinton a world class diplomat, and determined to set the record straight.
