On July 6, Mr. Obama met with military leaders at the Pentagon–oh, to have been a fly on the wall in those meetings!–and thereafter gave a brief speech, but took no questions. There was nothing surprising about the President’s comments, but some were revealing of a man with a strategy.
That’s right. Despite saying he has no strategy regarding ISIS, Mr. Obama certainly does, but it has nothing to do with defeating ISIS or Islamist terrorism, particularly state-sponsored terrorism. “Kicking the can down the road” might be the best description of Mr. Obama’s anti-terror policy. Consider these comments, via RCP:
PRESIDENT OBAMA: This broader challenge of countering violent extremism is not simply a military effort. Ideologies are not defeated with guns, they are defeated by better ideas and more attractive and more compelling vision. So the United States will continue to do our part by continuing to counter ISIL’s hateful propaganda, especially online. We’ll constantly reaffirm through words and deeds that we will never be at war with Islam. We are fighting terrorists who distort Islam and its victims are mostly Muslims.
We’re also going to partner with Muslim communities as they seek the prosperity and dignity they observe. And we’re going to expect those communities to step up in terms of pushing back as hard as they can in conjunction with other people of good will against these hateful ideologies, particularly when it comes to what we’re teaching young people.
“Ideologies are not defeated with guns.” That would be news to the untold millions murdered by fascist, communist ideologies during and after WWII. Just ask the Cubans, Cambodians, Vietnamese, Chinese, Jews, Poles, Russians, and the list goes on and on. It would be news to the Jews and to the Islamist murderers that surround Israel.
We are indeed at war with Islam; they certainly believe they are at war with us and are not shy about saying it. The psychopathic killers beheading and crucifying and raping are actually following the letter and intent of their scriptures. Muslims living in peace with their neighbors are not; it is they that “distort Islam.” Leaders unable to recognize the motivation of their enemies, and unwilling even to accurately identify them are in no position to defeat them.
The Chinese and Russians have hacked us blind, stealing the personal information of virtually every federal employee, many corporations, and surely many other American citizens. The Obama Administration hasn’t been able to address that. How will it “counter ISIL’s hateful propaganda” on the Internet? Where is the evidence–any evidence–that the federal government is even attempting to do anything about Islamist Internet propaganda and recruiting?
And where are these Muslim communities that are partnering with us to push back against Jihadists? The very few brave Muslims daring to criticize Islam live in hiding lest they be murdered. The rest know well the true nature of their “religion of peace,” and either sympathize with their jihadist brethren, or wisely do nothing to cause them to take an interest in removing their heads.
And what, exactly, are we doing to cause Islamist nations to stop teaching their young people “hateful ideologies?” The Saudis, Iranians, Palestinians, and many other Islamist nations inculcate their children with the most violent and vile Islamist hate and always have, yet Mr. Obama can’t support the Iranians and Palestinians enough. He’s pretty lukewarm on the Saudis these days because they’re actually attacking ISIS.
Mr. Obama continues to claim that he will degrade and destroy ISIS, and lauded his occasional airstrikes as proof of his manly, anti-terrorist credentials. Because Mr. Obama’s lips were moving when he made such claims, it’s clear he was lying:
U.S. military pilots carrying out the air war against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria are voicing growing discontent over what they say are heavy-handed rules of engagement hindering them from striking targets.
They blame a bureaucracy that does not allow for quick decision-making. One Navy F-18 pilot who has flown missions against ISIS voiced his frustration to Fox News, saying: ‘There were times I had groups of ISIS fighters in my sights, but couldn’t get clearance to engage.’
He added, ‘They probably killed innocent people and spread evil because of my inability to kill them. It was frustrating.
Of course, the Obamites pushed back, denying such reports, but there are those that know better:
A former U.S. Air Force general who led air campaigns over Iraq and Afghanistan also said today’s pilots are being ‘micromanaged,’ and the process for ordering strikes is slow — squandering valuable minutes and making it possible for the enemy to escape.
‘You’re talking about hours in some cases, which by that time the particular tactical target left the area and or the aircraft has run out of fuel. These are excessive procedures that are handing our adversary an advantage,’ said retired Lt. Gen. David Deptula, a former director of the Combined Air Operations Center in Afghanistan in 2001.
Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., recently complained that 75 percent of pilots are returning without dropping any ordnance, due to delays in decision-making up the chain of command.
Perhaps Mr. Obama knows jihadists better than anyone understands. Perhaps if they are told about capitalism, the Constitution, Obamaphones, Obamacare, WalMart, Nike sneakers, and the scantily clad or even nude women in American movies–you know: freedom–they will immediately recognize the superiority of our ideology, reject theirs, and join the Salvation Army.
What’s that? They already know about all those things? How is that possible? Oh. The Internet. Right.
Oh well. As Emily Litella would have said: “never mind.”
