Did you know that First Lady Michelle Obama’s Twitter account has 5, 290, 506 followers? And did you know that President Barack Obama has 36, 802,378 followers? Impressive? Not so much. The Daily Caller has the story:
According to the Twitter analytics application Status People, 37 percent of Michelle Obama’s 5,290, 506 Twitter followers — or approximately 1,957,487 followers — are considered fake. Thirty-five percent of her followers are inactive, and 28 percent are considered “good,” or real.
Michelle Obama’s account is run by Organizing for Action, and sent its last Tweet on March 4. It was a retweet of a message sent by the Twitter account of the First Lady’s Let’s Move initiative.
The official Twitter account for the Office of the First Lady is @FLOTUS. Only 25 percent of the account’s 513,026 followers are considered fake. 38 percent are inactive, and 37 percent are considered ‘good.’
Percentage-wise, she still fared better than President Barack Obama. Over half of Obama’s Twitter followers, according to a Sept. 20 Daily Caller report, are fake – 55 percent, or 20.2 million out of 36.8 million followers, to be more exact.
And what is a “fake follower” you might well ask?
A ‘fake follower,’ according to Status People, is a spam account following the user. During the presidential election season, candidates’ Twitter accounts came under public scrutiny for possibly purchasing followers to try to bolster their social media credibility.
What does this mean for Mr. Obama?

Twenty-four percent of Obama’s Twitter followers are inactive, and only 21 percent — or approximately 7,728,499 followers — are real.
Obama’s Twitter account has been active since March 2007, according to the Twitter analytics application Foller.me.
The nation is in the very best of hands.

While ‘social media’ may have a certain appeal for those sensitive to exclusion. Anyone who is alarmed at the gradual brutalisation of manners, impoverishment of vocabulary, and rejection of traditional values need look no further. A sort of News from the Sewers. ‘ Social’ media is the last refuge of the deranged, the desperate, the opportunistic, the pompous and the semi-literate.
So I suppose it should come as no suprise that Barry and Moochelle have twitter accounts. But really!! Have these people no shame?
Mike, it’s interesting to find out about Barry’s twitter account but how about shining a light on the likes of Penny Pritzker, the queen of the sub-prime mortgage and Barry’s chief bundler. Then there’s her co-religionist Peter Geithner: who ran the Ford Foundation in Indonesia where Stanley Ann Dunham worked. And is it just a coincidence that Timothy Geithner is Barry’s Treasury Secretary? These aren’t twitter followers, they’re the ones pulling Barry’s strings. I won’t be boorish and point out their religion, but we shouldn’t romanticise history’s losers, should we?
