I have relatively little to say on the Boston bombings for the time being.  It’s simply too early to know anything of substance, anything that might inspire genuine insight, with any degree of accuracy.  There are, however, some things we know with certainty:

Whatever the legacy media tells us, we can be certain they’ll get much of it wrong and/or they’ll slant it in favor of their preferred Progressive narrative of the week.  Sixty percent or more of Americans have little or no trust in them.

Whatever the Obama Administration tells us about this attack, any rational being will have to suspect much, if not all of it, is a lie (Benghazi ring a bell?).  Only 28% of Americans have a favorable view of the federal government.

One can be absolutely certain that there is much wailing and gnashing of teeth in the White House and Obama permanent campaign headquarters because the bombings have refocused the public on the continuing war against terrorists/Islamists, including Behghazi.  It has also turned the attention of the public from the distractions carefully erected by the White House and abetted by the press regarding gun control, immigration and the utterly disastrous economy, including Mr. Obama’s utterly disastrous, dead-on-arrival budget.

One can be absolutely certain that whatever Mr. Obama says about Boston, it will be characteristically self-referential, and so it was.  Examples from the 10 paragraph statement:

“I was briefed by my homeland security team…”  (One would hope so)

“And I’ve directed…”

“And Michelle and I send our…”

“I’ve spoken to FBI Director…”

“I’ve updated leaders of Congress…” (About what?  That he doesn’t know anything about what happened minutes after the explosions?)

“I’ve also spoken with Governor Patrick…”

“And above all, I made clear…”

“I’m supremely confident…”  (That, we already know)

“I just want to reiterate…” (We know that too)

It is absolutely certain that John Kerry will be faithful to any agenda that denigrates America and his fellow Americans and that is destructive to liberty.

During his trip to Asia-supposedly to deal with the threat posed by North Korea, Kerry instead focused on gun control, claiming he was told by many Japanese that they aren’t sending exchange students to America because they’re afraid of guns and violence.  One would think he might be a bit busy for such frivolity, what with a nuclear-armed madman threatening attacks that could plunge the region into war and all, but nooooo!

Ed Morrissey at Hot Air adds a bit of rationality:

In 2011, Japan sent 21,290 students to study in the United States, making it the seventh largest country of origin for international scholars . That was down 14% from the previous year, according to numbers from the Institute of International Education.

Figures have shown international study is down markedly among Japanese students to all destinations, including the United States. Experts have attributed the decline to Japan’s low birthrate, the expense of foreign study in a poor economy, and a desire among Japanese young people to remain at home rather than venture to other countries.

What a pathetic little Marxist we have as our Secretary of State.

We can be absolutely sure that “smart diplomacy” is nothing more than a euphemism for the same old stupid and cowardly trashing of America by leftist useful idiots.

Rational people can now be certain—if there was ever a doubt–that guns are neither the cause of, nor the most exclusively dangerous tool employed in doing violence.  The dead and more than 100 injured in Boston were harmed by bombs, and the fourteen injured in a mass attack at a community college in Houston were injured by a single mentally ill madman with a knife.

We can be certain that not a single provision of any of the anti-freedom, anti-gun bills currently being proposed or enacted on the state or federal levels would have, in any way, prevented Newtown, Houston, Boston, or any similar attack, nor would they have lessened the damage.

We can be certain that our Islamist enemy, and those domestic useful idiots that support and sympathize with them, will never cease trying to destroy us.

We can be absolutely certain that feckless, opportunistic and soulless politicians will try to exploit the Boston attack to promote gun control.

We can be absolutely certain that shameless tools of the press will try to exploit the Boston attack to further their narratives/political goals, and that honorable Americans, and particularly conservatives, will be their primary targets.

We can be certain that when the Boston killers are identified, our Department of Justice will do its best to treat them as common criminals, giving them all the protections of the Constitution and denying our intelligence agencies the benefit of intelligence that could save lives and prevent future attacks.

But most of all, we can be certain, just as it was after Gabrielle Giffords was shot, that any Leftist claims that “we’re all Americans,” and claims to want calm and reasoned discourse will evaporate like steam in the wind.

FINAL THOUGHTS (Updated 04-16-13, 2240, CST):

We can be certain that the usual suspects will claim that Boston “changes everything.”  It doesn’t The first bombing attack on the World Trade Centers was February 26, 1993. If successful, it would have killed and injured far, far more than Boston.  We are no more–and no less–vulnerable today than we were the day before the Boston bombings.  We have to be very, very good and lucky 100% of the time.  Terrorists just have to be lucky once.  They were lucky in Boston.

Certainly, those who will claim everything changed will do so to justify changes in law that cannot be justified in any other way.  In reality, such infringements on liberty can never be justified.

They will certainly appeal to emotion, parading maimed victims before the cameras to support their desires, and they will demonize anyone who doesn’t support their wishes.

We can be certain their desires will not in any way increase liberty, but will diminish, even destroy it.

We can be certain they will claim guns are useless against bombs, therefore any anti-gun/freedom scheme they desire is even more important and must be passed NOW!  Guns are useful in stopping bombers.  They are even more useful now, and the necessity of concealed carry by honest, vigilant citizens is even more important now than ever.

We can be certain Mr. Obama will enact a variety of executive orders and national security findings–many in secret–that will be horrendously destructive of liberty and that will do little or nothing to protect us.  Since taking office, Mr. Obama has cut the budget of the Office For Bombing Prevention by 45%.

We can be certain that Benjamin Franklin was right, in 1775 and now:

Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.
