Reason #32: Abandoning Morality, Embracing Genocide

Categories: Abandoning allies, embracing enemies (Islamism)

Since the beginning of his administration, Mr. Obama’s disdain for America’s allies has been glaringly obvious.  His serial insults of the British are both juvenile and foolish, yet for all of the damage he has caused, his behavior toward the British has not put Britain’s national survival in jeopardy.

Clearly, any ally would be foolish to be put its faith in the character and word of Mr. Obama.  This is particularly true of any democratic ally.  However, any totalitarian enemy of America—particularly a Muslim enemy—can be sure that not only will Mr. Obama fail to employ military force against them, he will do nothing to interfere with their evil designs but talk, and threaten to talk some more when his rhetoric accomplishes nothing.  Under Barack Obama, there is no more dangerous ally than America and no more feckless enemy.  Iran not only understands this, it is counting on it.  Sadly, Israel understands this only too well, and where Mr. Obama is concerned, is wisely counting on nothing.  The Times of Israel has the story:

Tensions between the Israeli and United States governments reached fever pitch over the issue of Iran’s nuclear program in a recent high-level meeting between the prime minister and the American ambassador, Yedioth Ahronoth reported on Friday.

Last week Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened a closed-door meeting with visiting Congressman and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Rogers and American Ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro. Netanyahu opened the discussion by lambasting the Obama administration for what he considered its ineffectual policy vis à vis Iran.

Netanyahu then expressed his belief that the US should be pressuring Iran to stop its nuclear program rather than pressuring Israel not to attack.

‘Instead of effectively pressuring Iran, Obama and his people are pressuring us not to attack the nuclear facilities,”’he reportedly said. He concluded by saying that the time for diplomacy had run out, the Yedioth report said.

At one point during the meeting, Shapiro grew enraged by Netanyahu’s remarks, broke diplomatic protocol, and snapped at the PM, saying he was misrepresenting Obama’s position on Iran.

The Blaze added:

At one point, an anomalous thing occurred in the office, which is very unacceptable in diplomatic code. Ambassador Shapiro who was appointed by President Obama and for years was among his closest advisers decided he’d had enough. Enough is enough. He spoke and answered Netanyahu politely but in a manner that left no room for doubt.

The ambassador in fact accused Netanyahu of distorting Obama’s position. He quoted the president, who promised he would not allow a nuclear Iran and said that all options – including a military strike – are on the table […]

Diplomatic sources who were privy to the incident say that ‘lightning and sparks flew’ in the room, and that the exchange of words became more harsh.

“All options…are on the table.”  Despite the many times Mr. Obama has said this, Israel has reason to distrust such ephemeral assertions.  Mr. Obama’s attempts to advance the “peace process” between Israel and the Palestinians was based almost entirely on his demand—a demand the Palestinians didn’t want—that Israel stop building on its own land and return to militarily untenable borders, borders that would leave Israel all but helpless in the face of the implacable enemies that surround it.  His efforts have been an abject failure, succeeding only in causing both Palestinian groups to band together and to reaffirm rather than renounce their unwavering determination to destroy Israel and kill every Jew they can target.  Palestinian parents share this determination, teaching their children that honor and status lie in murder, and indoctrinating them, even in kindergarten, to kill Jews.

After utterly losing Egypt to the Muslim Brotherhood, putting, once again, a powerful and hostile military on Israel’s southern border, Mr. Obama fails or refuses to recognize the existential danger of the Syrian stockpile of chemical and biological weapons—which may include Saddam Hussein’s stockpile—at Israel’s north.  The invaluable Caroline Glick noted:

Syria is in possession of one of the largest arsenals of chemical and biological weapons in the world. The barbarism with which the regime is murdering its opponents is a daily reminder – indeed a flashing neon warning sign – that Syria’s nonconventional arsenal constitutes a clear and present danger to international security. And yet, the Obama administration insists on viewing Syrian President Bashar Assad’s murderous behavior as if it were a garden variety human rights crisis.

During her visit with Turkey’s Islamist Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu last Saturday, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton didn’t even mention the issue of Syria’s chemical and biological weapons. Instead she continued to back Turkey’s sponsorship of the Islamist-dominated opposition and said that the US would be working with Turkey to put together new ways to help the Islamist opposition overthrow Assad’s regime.

Among other things, she did not rule out the imposition of a no-fly zone over Syria.

The party most likely to be harmed from such a move would be Israel, which would lose its ability to bomb Syrian weapons of mass destruction sites from the air.

Glick adds:

Then of course, there is Iran and its openly genocidal nuclear weapons program. This week The New York Times reported a new twist in the Obama administration’s strategy for managing this threat. It is trying to convince the Persian Gulf states to accept advanced missile defense systems from the US.

This new policy makes clear that the Obama administration has no intention of preventing Iran from becoming a nuclear power. Its actions on the ground are aimed instead at accomplishing two goals: convincing Iran’s Arab neighbors to accept Iran as a nuclear power and preventing Israel from acting militarily to prevent Iran from becoming a nuclear power. The missile shields are aspects of a policy of containment, not prevention. And the US’s attempts to sabotage Israel’s ability to strike Iran’s nuclear sites through leaks, political pressure and efforts to weaken the Netanyahu government make clear that as far as the US is concerned, Iran acquiring nuclear weapons is not the problem.

The prospect of Israel preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons is the problem.

Israel’s population is nearly 8 million, but Israel is a tiny nation, only 8 miles across at one point.  Despite its nuclear arsenal—which Israel neither confirms nor denies—Israel is uniquely vulnerable to Weapon of Mass Destruction (WMD) attacks, particularly nuclear attacks.  A single warhead targeted on Tel Aviv or Jerusalem could cause millions of casualties and essentially destroy Israel, while the unleashing of every warhead in the Israeli arsenal against Islamist nations would cause only damage.  This calculation is well known in the Middle East and often repeated by Israel’s enemies with a sense of fatalism and deranged pride.

A nuclear arsenal of any size is a deterrent only against nations and peoples who share certain secular, nationalistic beliefs.  For all of their saber rattling, the Soviets were secular realists, and intensely nationalistic.  Conventional power was their goal, and they feared nuclear annihilation, as would any sane human being.  Israel’s Islamist enemies do not.  In fact, they brag that they love death, and prove it in mass suicide attacks and in murderous kindergarten skits.

The Iranians particularly epitomize this attitude.  Its leaders are fanatical theocrats who believe that by blowing up the Middle East and murdering every living Jew, they will hasten the return of the 12th Imam, a figure who will usher in a new, world-wide caliphate and the destruction and enslavement of all non-Muslims.  For such people—for whom a week seldom goes by without an earnest death threat against Israel and America—loosing nuclear weapons on Israel, even if they destroy one of Islam’s most holy shrines in Jerusalem—The Dome Of The Rock—is not only imaginable, but an absolute necessity.  As soon as a mushroom cloud—or clouds—rose over Israel, Muslim armies would swarm over her borders, gladly engaging in a slaughter that would make the Holocaust look like a Sunday school picnic.

Iran has more than doubled its working centrifuges.  Its nuclear enrichment cycle continues apace.  There is no doubt it is working to build nuclear weapons, and will use them against Israel and America.  No deterrant may work against such fanatics, but rhetoric is surely the weakest of all.  What then, is Mr. Obama’s military response?  DEBKAfile has the story:

US Gen. Martin Dempsey’s assertion Thursday, Aug. 30 that the US would not be ‘complicit’ in an Israel strike against Iran, together with the drastic reduction in the scale of next month’s joint US-Israeli war game disclosed by TIME, add up to a blunt message from US President Barack Obama to Israel: You are on your own! See how you manage without special US weapons and US military backup, including a shield against missile counter-attack, if you decide to defy us and go through with a military operation against Iran.

Instead of the 5,000 US troops originally assigned for Austere Challenge 12, the annual joint exercise, the Pentagon will send only 1,200 to 1,500 service members. The missile interception systems at the core of the joint exercise will be reduced in number and potency: Patriot anti-missiles will come without crews and maybe one instead of two Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense warships, according to the magazine.

The Obama administration has put Israel on harsh notice that an attack on Iran to disrupt or delay its nuclear armament will be refused US missile backup – both in the course of the operation and to cover Israel’s back in the event of a counter-strike widening into a general Middle East conflict. The Netanyahu government will bear full and exclusive responsibility for the consequences of attacking Iran.

Obama, who has repeatedly pledged his commitment to Israeli security, is the first American president to cut Israeli adrift against a major threat to its security explicitly posed by Iran.

The US president has put his campaign for reelection next month at great albeit calculated risk. His rival Mitt Romney will not doubt follow up on the charges he made during his acceptance speech to the Republican convention Thursday that Obama threw ‘allies like Israel under the bus’ and failed utterly to stop Iran’s centrifuges spinning.

There are few words more meaningful for Jews than “never again.”  Never again will Jews allow themselves to be slaughtered.  Never again will they be weak.  But as strong and determined as they are, God’s chosen people are not invincible.  The sole stable democracy in the Middle East needs American support.

No rational man need build a moral case for standing with Israel to prevent the implementation of Hitler’s “final solution.”  Many have forgotten that Arabs were the allies of the Third Reich during WWII.  In a very real sense, one’s ultimate morality may be determined by his support for those who manifestly deserve it, or his lack thereof.  Mr. Obama’s utter lack of morality in his dealings with Israel is blindingly obvious.  He does not stand with civilization, justice and America’s word, but with those who would delightfully commit genocide, praising their god all the while.  His token nods toward our historic, deeply moral alliance are a matter only of political expediency, of an increasingly desperate attempt to keep power.  Ultimately, even that likely cannot compel him to give Israel the military and political support due any ally of America–of freedom.  It appears to be just too far opposite his very core beliefs.  At least some American Jews—traditional supporters of the Democrat Party–are awakening to that reality.

With Iran posing an existential, imminent threat to the very existence of Israel, Mr. Obama chooses to abandon the Jews and to pressure them to do nothing to prevent their annihilation.  Attorney General Erik Holder has made clear that blacks are his “[my] people.”  One might reasonably believe that Mr. Obama’s people are Islamists, or in other words, Israel’s enemies.

And we elected him president.
