As I’ve previously written John Rutter is one of the most prolific and accomplished choral composers alive. I’ve had the great pleasure to perform and direct his works for many years, and I’d like to share another of my favorites with you: The Candlelight Carol. This particular YouTube version features very old film of London street scenes, which is appropriate as Rutter is English.
The human voice is the most expressive instrument. One of the reasons we so love the violin is that when played by virtuosos, it approaches the passion and emotion of the human voice. Take the link and listen to the Cambridge Singers under Rutter’s direction, with his orchestration, doing this magnificent, inspiring work of faith and hope. The oboe and flute lines are particularly nice. You’ll see what I mean. It will make the rest of your week.
